Frederick VII Of Denmark
Frederick VII (Frederik Carl Christian; 6 October 1808 – 15 November 1863) was King of Denmark from 1848 to 1863. He was the last Danish monarch of the older Royal branch of the House of Oldenburg and the last king of Denmark to rule as an absolute monarch. During his reign, he signed a constitution that established a Danish parliament and made the country a constitutional monarchy. Frederick's motto was ''Folkets Kærlighed, min Styrke'' ( Danish for ''the People's Love, my Strength''). Family Frederick was born at Amalienborg Palace to Christian VIII of Denmark and Duchess Charlotte Frederica of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Anders Sandøe Ørsted
Anders Sandøe Ørsted (21 December 1778 – 1 May 1860) was a Danish lawyer, politician and jurist. He served as the Prime Minister of Denmark in 1853–1854. Biography He studied philosophy and law at the University of Copenhagen and was admitted to the bar in 1799. He became a noted jurist. An early case overseen by him was that of Hans Jonatan, an escaped slave, which was (at least viewed retrospectively) a major test case in Danish law on slavery; Anders condemned Hans to be returned to the West Indies, where he had been purchased (Hof-og Stadsret: ''Generalmajorinde Henriette de Schimmelmann contra mulatten Hans Jonathan 1802''). Relatively early, he was connected to the national administration, and from 1825 to 1848, he was “''generalprokurør''” (juridical adviser of the government). Peter Georg Bang
Peter Georg Bang (7 October 1797 – 2 April 1861) was a Danish politician and jurist. He served as the Prime Minister of Denmark 1854–1856. Biography Bang was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. His parents were Jacob Hansen Bang (1770-1841) and Anna Cathrine Sophie Østrup (1779-1820). He became a student at Frederiksborg Latin School in 1813, took lic.jur. in 1816 and obtained Dr. Jur. in 1820. He was a professor of Roman law at the University of Copenhagen and from 1836 to 1845 he was director of Danmarks Nationalbank. In 1845 when he was appointed Deputy in National Treasury (''Rentekammeret''). His daughter, Ville Bang (1848–1932), became a recognized painter and art teacher. Jacob Peter Mynster
Jacob Peter Mynster (8 November 1775 – 30 January 1854) was a Danish theologian and clergy member of the Church of Denmark. He served as Bishop of the Diocese of Zealand from 1834 until his death. Mynster was notably used as an exemplar of conservative religion by Søren Kierkegaard in his book ''Attack Upon Christendom.'' Early life and education Mynster was born on 8 November 1775 in Copenhagen. His father, Christian Gudzon Peter Mynster, was a Chamber Councillor (''kammerråd'') and inspector at Frederiks Hospital. His mother was named Frederica Christiane Nicoline (née Ring). His father died in 1777 of tuberculosis, and his mother was remarried to Frederik Ludvig Bang, a doctor who was superintendent of the same hospital as her first husband. Johannes Søbøtker
Johannes Søbøtker (9 May 1777 – 23 March 1854) was a Danish merchant, planter and colonial administrator who served as of St. Thomas and St. John in the Danish West Indies. His former country house Øregård in Hellerup now serves as an art museum. Early life and education Johannes Søbøtker was born on St. Croix in the Danish West Indies, the son of planter and later General War Commissioner Adam Levin Søbøtker (1753–1823) and Susanne van Beverhoudt (1761–1811). His father owned the estates Constitution Hill and Høgensborg on Saint Croix and was for a while the largest landowner on the islands. Søbøtker was sent to Copenhagen where he received a commercial education first in De Coninck & Co. and later his future father-in-law Lars Larsen's trading house. Marie Toft
Ane Marie Elise Toft, later Grundtvig, née Carlsen (4 April 1813 – 9 July 1854) was a wealthy Danish landowner who owned and efficiently administered the Rønnebæksholm estate near Næstved which she had inherited from her first husband following a marriage lasting less than two years. She opened up Rønnebæksholm to religious revivalists, attracting both clerics and laymen to the estate. In 1851, she married the influential philosopher, N.F.S. Grundtvig, who had visited the estate in 1846. Her manor house subsequently became one of the principal centres of Grundtvigian activity while Grundtvig became deeply devoted to Toft, treating her as his independent and spiritually equal partner.
