However, some sources instead put this date at 1535 when the word "Canada" was first used to refer to the French colony of Canada, which was founded in the name of King Francis I. John Barnwell (colonist)
John Barnwell (1671–1724), also known as Tuscarora Jack, was an Anglo Irishman who emigrated to the Province of South Carolina in 1701. He led an army against the Tuscarora in 1711–1712. Later he served the colony as an official in talks with England in forming the government. He also worked to revive the relationship between the colony and its former allies the Yamasee. Life Barnwell's exact origins are uncertain. By the time the Tuscarora War began in 1712, Barnwell had become an important official of the colony. He led one army of colonial militia and allied Native Americans in campaigns. South Carolina sent two armies against the Tuscarora in North Carolina, the first of which Barnwell commanded in campaigns in late 1711 and early 1712. The army was made up mostly of Indians, especially Yamasee. Barnwell defeated the Tuscarora and arranged a peace treaty, after which his army disbanded. Daniel Liénard De Beaujeu
Daniel Hyacinthe Liénard de Beaujeu (9 or 19 August 1711 – 9 July 1755) was a French officer during King George's War and the French and Indian War. He participated in the Battle of Grand Pre (1747). He also organized the force that attacked General Edward Braddock's army after it forded the Monongahela River. The event was later dubbed the Battle of the Monongahela. Beaujeu led his small force into the attack, where he was shot dead in the opening moments when the attack was launched on July 9, 1755. However, his adoption of Native American customs, such as wearing war paint and regalia, helped raise the morale and fighting tenacity of the warriors under his command. François-Louis De Pourroy De Lauberivière
François-Louis de Pourroy de Lauberivière (June 16, 1711 – August 20, 1740) was the fifth bishop of the diocese of Quebec (1739–1740). He was trained in France and had a doctor of theology from the Sorbonne. Biography François-Louis was ordained a priest in 1735 after completing his studies at the Jesuit college in Grenoble and a seminary in Paris. In March, 1739, Louis XV appointed him to succeed Bishop Pierre Hermann Dosquet from Quebec. He sailed from La Rochelle on the ''Rubis'' on 10 June 1740 along with various priests and servants. A fever broke out when they reached the Grand Banks of Newfoundland and quickly spread through the lower status passengers. The bishop and his priests worked wherever needed to assist those in need. Charles Morris (surveyor General)
Charles Morris (8 June 1711 – buried 4 November 1781) army officer, served on the Nova Scotia Council, Chief Justice of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court (1776–1778) and, the surveyor general for over 32 years, he created some of the first British maps of Canada's maritime region and designed the layout of Halifax, Lunenburg, Lawrencetown, and Liverpool. In Halifax he laid out both the present-day down town core and the Halifax Common. History He was born in Boston and when he first came to the colony he fought in the Battle of Grand Pré. The maps he produced and information he gathered about the disposition of Acadians villages during his surveying of the colony was later used by the Military authority in Halifax to initiate the Expulsion of the Acadians during the French and Indian War.
