100 Metres At The World Athletics Championships
The 100 metres at the World Championships in Athletics has been contested by both men and women since the inaugural edition in 1983. It is the second most prestigious 100 m title after the 100 metres at the Olympics. The competition format typically has two or three qualifying rounds leading to a final between eight athletes. Since 2011 a preliminary round has been held, where athletes who have not achieved the qualifying standards in athletics, qualifying standard time compete to enter the first round proper. The List of World Championships in Athletics records, championship records for the event are 9.58 seconds for men, set by Usain Bolt in 2009, and 10.65 seconds for women, set by Sha'Carri Richardson in 2023. Usain Bolt
Usain St. Leo Bolt (; born 21 August 1986) is a Jamaican retired sprinter who is widely regarded as the greatest sprinter of all time. He is an eight-time Olympic gold medalist and the world record holder in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 × 100 metres relay. Justin Gatlin
Justin Alexander Gatlin (born February 10, 1982) is a retired American sprinter who competed in the 60 meters, 100 meters, and 200 meters. He is the 2004 Olympic Champion in the 100 meters, the 2005 and 2017 World Champion in the 100 meters, the 2005 World Champion in the 200 meters, and the 2019 World Champion in the 4 × 100 meters relay. In addition, Gatlin is the 2003 and 2012 World Indoor Champion in the 60 meters. He is a 5-time Olympic medalist and a 12-time World Championship medalist. Angella Taylor-Issajenko
Angella Taylor-Issajenko, CM (née Taylor; born September 28, 1958) is a Canadian coach and former sprinter. She won an Olympic silver medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay in Los Angeles 1984. At the Commonwealth Games she won seven medals, including the 100 metres title in Brisbane 1982 and the 200 metres in Edinburgh 1986. Career Taylor was born in Jamaica on September 28, 1958. Her breakout performance came at the 1979 Pan Am Games, where she took a bronze in the 100 m and a silver in the 200 m, and set national records of 11.20 and 22.80 respectively. Despite Canada's boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, she dominated post-Olympic competition in the summer of 1980, winning several meets, and finishing second in the 100 m to Marlies Göhr, and third in the 200 m behind Bärbel Wöckel at the final stop in Zürich. Kim Collins
Kim Collins (born 5 April 1976) is a former Saint Kitts and Nevis, Kittitian track and field sprint (running), sprinter. In 2003, he became the World Championships in Athletics, World Champion in the 100 metres. He represented his country at the Summer Olympics on five occasions, from 1996 to 2016, and was the country's first athlete to reach an Olympic final. He competed at ten editions of the World Championships in Athletics, from 1995 to 2015, winning five medals. Chandra Lavon Sturrup (born September 12, 1971) is a Bahamian track and field sprint athlete. Career She is a 100 m specialist and the Bahamian record holder for the women's 100 m with a personal best of 10.84 set in Lausanne, Switzerland on July 5, 2005. Sturrup is an alumnus of Norfolk State University, and has taken part in almost every major event since 1991 after the birth of her son, Shawn Murray Jr. For most of her career, she was coached by Trevor Graham. Sturrup competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing at the 100 metres sprint. In her first-round heat she placed first in front of Kelly-Ann Baptiste and Lina Grincikaite in a time of 11.30 to advance to the second round. Darrel Rondel Brown (born October 11, 1984) is a sprinter from Trinidad and Tobago who specializes in the 100 metres and the 200 metres. Career In the beginning of his career, he was awarded the Austin Sealy Trophy for the most outstanding athlete at the CARIFTA Games twice, both in 1999 and 2000, after becoming the first athlete to win back-to-back titles in both the 100 and 200 metres (Youth). Katrin Krabbe
Katrin Krabbe (; later Zimmermann; born 22 November 1969) is a German former track and field athlete. She represented East Germany (GDR) at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and went on to win the 100 metres and 200 metres titles at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, representing a unified Germany. Her best times are 10.89 secs for 100 m (1988) and 21.95 secs for 200 m (1990).
