''O Re'' (also known as ''The King of Naples'') is a 1989 Italian historical film written and directed by Luigi Magni.Franco Montini, Piero Spila, ''Il mondo di Luigi Magni : avventure, sogni e disincanto''. Plot In 1862, Francis II of Bourbon, the last king of the Two Sicilies, lives in exile in Rome (capital city of the Papal States) with his wife Maria Sophie and the butler Rafele. The king has lost his throne after the conquest of his kingdom by the forces of Giuseppe Garibaldi and the Piedmontese Army. Luigi Magni
Luigi Magni (21 March 1928 – 27 October 2013) was an Italian screenwriter and film director. Life and career Born in Rome, Italy, Magni started his career as a screenwriter, in 1956, with '' Tempo di villeggiatura''. In 1968 he collaborated with Mario Monicelli in creating a real "event" of the Italian cinema by transforming Monica Vitti into a comedic actress with '' The Girl with the Pistol'', and the critical and commercial success of the film pushed him into directing. After the directorial debut with '' Faustina'' (which was also the debut film of Vonetta McGee), in 1969 Magni achieved an extraordinary success with ''Nell'anno del Signore'', which was the highest-grossing Italian film of the year, so as to require for the first time in Italy nighttime screenings to meet the demands of the audience. José Borjes
José Borjes (28 November 18128 December 1861) was a Spanish general who fought on the Carlist side during the Carlist Wars. Later in his life he sided with Francis II of the Two Sicilies and fought against the unification of Italy. Biography Born in a Catholic family, Borjes took part in the First Carlist War. During the war, he lost his father, who was shot in Cervera by colonel Don Cristino Niubó. Borjes was one of the closest collaborators of Carlos de Borbón and was promoted to the rank of colonel in 1839. After the armistice, he emigrated to Bourg-en-Bresse, in France. Sergio Solli (19 November 1944 – 3 February 2023) was an Italian actor and stage director. Life and career Born in Naples, Solli was originally a hairdresser who acted in small amateur dramatics as a hobby, but his career had a turning point in the 1970s after a successful audition with Eduardo De Filippo; he stayed with his stage for numerous years, also appearing in several De Filippo's television works.
