Čukarica
Čukarica ( sr-cyr, Чукарица, ) is a Subdivisions of Belgrade, municipality of the city of Belgrade, Serbia. Name Like several other neighborhoods of Belgrade, Čukarica was named after a kafana. At the present location of the Sugar Refinery in Čukarica, Sugar Refinery, there was a kafana in the second half of the 19th century. It was very popular as it was located at the point where two roads, one from Obrenovac and other from Šumadija, meet at the entrance to Belgrade. It was owned by Stojko Čukar and the kafana was named “Čukareva kafana” after him, which later gave name to the settlement. History The village of Čukarica asked to be transferred to the Belgrade municipality in 1906, but the plea was rejected. Banovo Brdo
Banovo Brdo ( sr-cyrl, Баново брдо, ) is a neighbourhood of Belgrade, Serbia. It is located in Belgrade's municipality of Čukarica. Location Banovo Brdo is bounded by the neighborhoods of Čukarica and Čukarička Padina in the west, Ada Ciganlija and Careva Ćuprija in the north, Topčider and Košutnjak in the east and Žarkovo and Julino Brdo in the south. Eastern parts of Banovo Brdo make two sub-neighborhoods, Golf Naselje and Sunčana Padina. Žarkovo ( sr-Cyrl, Жарково, ) is an List of Belgrade neighborhoods, urban neighborhood of Belgrade, Serbia. It is located in Belgrade's municipality of Čukarica. Location and divisions Žarkovo (Greater Žarkovo) is one of the most populous single neighborhoods of Belgrade. As such, it is divided in several sub-neighborhoods, which were built as Žarkovo's extensions: Julino Brdo and Repište, Belgrade, Repište to the north, Cerak-Cerak, Cerak II to the west and Bele Vode and Rupčine to the south. Umka
Umka ( sr-cyrl, Умка) is a suburban settlement of Belgrade, Serbia. It is located in the municipality of Čukarica. The settlement is notorious for the soil creep, so much that the apocryphal classified "Home for sale n Umka low mileage" entered the colloquial language. Location Umka is located south-west of Belgrade, on the right bank of the Sava river, close to river's . Etymology Umka was formerly called Humka, with meaning mound, knoll in Serbian language. Rakovica, Belgrade
Rakovica ( sr-cyr, Раковица, ) is a municipality of the city of Belgrade. According to the 2022 census results, the municipality has 104,456 inhabitants. The municipality of Rakovica is located south of downtown Belgrade. It is bordered by the municipalities of Savski Venac on the north, Voždovac on the east and Čukarica on the west and south. Vehicle registration plates of Serbia display black alphanumeric characters on a white background with blue field placed along the left side edge. Goran Marković ( sr-Cyrl, Горан Марковић, ) (born 24 August 1946) is a Serbian film and theatre director, screenwriter, writer, and playwright. He has directed approximately 50 documentaries, 13 feature films, and 3 theatre plays. He has also written five books. Marković is one of the few directors from the former Yugoslavia credited with popularizing Yugoslav films, as well as achieving success domestically and internationally. Raion
A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city. The word is from the French (meaning 'honeycomb, department'), and is commonly translated as ' district' in English. A raion is a standardized administrative entity across most of the former Soviet Union and is usually a subdivision two steps below the national level, such as a subdivision of an oblast. However, in smaller USSR republics, it could be the primary level of administrative division.
