ÍR Men's Basketball
The Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur men's basketball team, commonly known as ÍR, is the men's basketball department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland and was one of the pioneers of basketball in Iceland and one of the founding members of the men's Úrvalsdeild. From 1954 to 1977, the team won fifteen national championships. In 1964, it became the first Icelandic team to compete in a continental competition when it defeated the Collegians from Belfast, 71-17, in the first round of the 1964–65 FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). History ÍR's men's basketball department was founded in 1949 and its first chairman was Finnbjörn Þorvaldsson. The 2017–18 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 67th season of the Úrvalsdeild, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on October 5, 2017 and ended on April 28, 2018. KR won its fifth title in a row by defeating Tindastóll 3–1 in the Finals. The 2021–22 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 71st season of the Úrvalsdeild karla, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 7 October 2021 and ended on 18 May 2022. Valur won its third title, and its first in 39 years, by defeating Tindastóll 3–2 in the Finals. Mike DiNunno
Michele Christopher Di Nunno (born January 29, 1990) is an American-Italian professional basketball player, playing the point guard position. Born in Maywood, Illinois, he played high school basketball at Lake Park and Von Steuben. Initially, he committed to Northern Illinois to play college basketball, where he received MAC All-Freshman team honors. After two seasons, he transferred to Eastern Kentucky. DiNunno was named in the OVC All-Newcomer team in his junior season and first team all-OVC in his senior season at Eastern Kentucky. Following his graduation, he has played professionally in several leagues in Europe. In 2019 he won the Icelandic championship as a member of KR. Brandon Rozzell
Brandon Rozzell (born March 27, 1989) is an American professional basketball player. In 2017 he won the Swedish championship with Luleå where he was named the Finals MVP. In 2016 he was named the Basketligaen Most Valuable Player. Professional career In February 2012, Rozzell signed with Aris Leeuwarden of the Dutch Basketball League (DBL). He played for Ferreteria Brenes Barva in 2014 and Escazu in 2015 in the Costa Rica LBS. Njarðvík Men's Basketball
The Njarðvík men's basketball team, commonly known as Njarðvík or UMFN, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur, based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. It is one of the most successful men's team in Icelandic basketball, winning 17 national championships. The team, then known as Íþróttafélag Keflavíkurflugvallar (ÍKF), was one of the founding members of the Icelandic top league in 1952 and won the first Icelandic men's championship that same year. In 1969 the team merged into Ungmennafélag Njarðvíkur and became its basketball department. Kevin Jerome Capers (born May 2, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for Atomerőmű SE of the Hungarian League. He played college basketball for Florida Southern College before playing professionally in the NBA G League, Mexico, Romania, Iceland and Israel. Gerald Robinson (born September 15, 1984) is an American-Dutch professional basketball player, who has played for multiple professional teams in Europe. The 230 lb, 6 ft 9 power forward attended University of Tennessee at Martin, and started his career in the Spanish LEB Bronze league with Oviedo CB and later Cantabria Baloncesto. Tindastóll Men's Basketball
The Tindastóll men's basketball team, commonly known as Tindastóll, is the men's basketball department of the Ungmennafélagið Tindastóll sport club. It is based in Sauðárkrókur, Iceland. As of the 2018–19 season it played in Úrvalsdeild karla. In 2015 and 2018, it was the runner up to the Icelandic national championship. On January 13, 2018, the club won its first major title when it beat KR in the Icelandic Basketball Cup finals. On 30 September 2018, Tindastóll defeated KR in the Icelandic Super Cup, 103-72. Hlynur Bæringsson
Hlynur Elías Bæringsson (born 6 July 1982) is an Icelandic professional basketball player for Stjarnan of the Úrvalsdeild karla and a member of the Icelandic national basketball team. He won the Icelandic championship in 2010 as a member of Snæfell and the Swedish championship in 2011 as a member of Sundsvall Dragons. Hlynur was a key player with the Icelandic national team when it made its first appearance in EuroBasket in 2015 and again in 2017. He is one of eight players who have played at least 120 games for the team. A prolific rebounder, he led the Úrvalsdeild karla in rebounds twice and the Basketligan once. In 2019, he became the Úrvalsdeild karla all-time career rebounding leader.
