Ã…rdal
Årdal is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located at the end of the Årdalsfjorden in the traditional district of Sogn. The village of Årdalstangen is the administrative center of the municipality. The other main village is Øvre Årdal. The municipality of Årdal was created in 1863 when it was separated from the municipality of Lærdal. Årdal is a modern industrial community, with ties to the old society of farming and fishing. It is surrounded by dramatic nature with high mountains and waterfalls. The climate is rather mild and with less rain than normal in the west part of Norway. Årdal is a good starting point to explore the wild nature of Jotunheimen National Park, and with summer and winter activities within its boundaries. Asgeir Mandelid Årdal (born 30 November 1983) is a Norwegian cross-country skier. He made his FIS Cross-Country World Cup debut in March 2005 in Drammen, Norway. Karen Aardal
Karen I. Aardal (born 1961) is a Norwegian and Dutch applied mathematician, theoretical computer scientist, and operations researcher. Her research involves combinatorial optimization, integer programming, approximation algorithms, and facility location, with applications such as positioning emergency vehicles to optimize their response time. She is a professor in the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics at the Delft University of Technology, and the chair of the Mathematical Optimization Society for the 2016–2019 term. Education and career Aardal is originally from Norway. She earned her Ph.D. in 1992 at the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium. Ã…rdal is a former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1859 until 1965. It stretched from the head of the Ã…rdalsfjorden in the west to the county border in the east. It encompassed the southern half of the present-day Hjelmeland Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Ã…rdal where the Old Ã…rdal Church is located. History The municipality of ''Aardal'' was established in 1859 when the large municipality of Hjelmeland was divided into two: Ã…rdal in the south (population: 1,315) and Hjelmeland og Fister in the north (population: 3,084). Årdal is a village in Hjelmeland municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The village is located at the eastern end of the Årdalsfjorden at the mouth of the river Storåna. The village sits about southeast of the village of Fister and about south of the municipal centre of Hjelmelandsvågen. Øvre Årdal
Øvre Årdal is a village in Årdal Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is the larger of the two primary villages in Årdal. The village is situated at the northern end of the long lake Årdalsvatnet, with the village of Årdalstangen at the southern end. The village has a population (2019) of 3,117 and a population density of . Farnes Church is located in this village. The road ''Tindevegen'' goes from Øvre Årdal, through the Fardalen valley to the village of Turtagrø in Luster Municipality. It's one of the highest elevation roads in Norway.
