Melvin Dunlap
Melvin Carl Dunlap (June 9, 1945 - September 12, 2021) was an American bass guitarist most recognized for his work with Bill Withers and Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm band. Additionally, Dunlap was an accomplished session musician, producer, and composer. Career Dunlap began his bass playing career as a young child, seeking a way to overcome the boredom of being confined indoors due to multiple ailments, includinging myasthenia gravis. He then became a bass player for hire in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where he played with various local groups. In the early days of his career Dunlap was asked by fellow Ohio natives The O'Jays to become their touring bass player. He agreed and eventually settled in California, where he worked various odd jobs while pursuing a career as a musician. In Los Angeles, he met Charles Wright, a platinum-selling recording artist. Bill Withers
William Harrison Withers Jr. (July 4, 1938 – March 30, 2020) was an American singer and songwriter. He is known for having several hits over a career spanning 18 years, including "Ain't No Sunshine" (1971), "Grandma's Hands" (1971), "Use Me (Bill Withers song), Use Me" (1972), "Lean on Me (song), Lean on Me" (1972), "Lovely Day" (1977) and "Just the Two of Us (Grover Washington Jr. song), Just the Two of Us" (1980) (recorded in collaboration with Grover Washington Jr.). Withers won three Grammy Awards out of nine total nominations. His life was the subject of the 2009 documentary film ''Still Bill (film), Still Bill''. Dorothy Jeanne Thompson (August 6, 1932 – April 13, 1986), better known as Dorothy Ashby, was an American jazz harpist, singer and composer. Hailed as one of the most "unjustly under loved jazz greats of the 1950s" and the "most accomplished modern jazz harpist," Ashby established the harp as an improvising jazz instrument, beyond earlier use as a novelty or background orchestral instrument, proving the harp could play bebop as adeptly as the instruments commonly associated with jazz, such as the saxophone or piano. James Gadson
James Edward Gadson (born June 17, 1939) is an American drummer and session musician. Beginning his career in the late 1960s, Gadson has since become one of the most-recorded drummers in the history of R&B. He is also a singer and songwriter. Career Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Gadson played with the first line-up of Charles Wright's Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, and recorded three albums with them between 1968 and 1970.
