'If Only' Jim
''If Only' Jim'' is a 1920 American silent Western film directed by Jacques Jaccard and starring Harry Carey. The film is based on Philip Verrill Mighel's 1904 novel ''Bruvver Jim's Baby''. It is not known whether the film currently survives, and it may be a lost film. Plot There is a villain (Charles Brinley), who's after Jim Golden's (Harry Carey) gold, and a nice post mistress (Carol Holloway), who is willing to become both wife and mother. Universal surrounded their veteran western star, Harry Carey, with a fine supporting cast in this film, including former serial queen Carol Holloway as the post mistress, rotund comedy actor George Bunny, and one Minnie Prevost, a Native American supporting player who was billed as "Minnie Ha Ha" and had made an indelible impression with Mabel Normand in the 1918 film ''Mickey''. Jacques Jaccard
Jacques Jaccard (September 11, 1886 – July 24, 1960) was an American film director, writer and actor whose achievements in cinema were mostly in silent film. He directed 86 films and wrote scripts for 80 films. The best-known of his films as a director was '' The Diamond from the Sky'' (1915). Biography Jaccard told reporters he was born in New York City and educated in France. He moved back to the U.S. around 1913 and began a career as an actor and assistant director, specializing in western and action films at Universal early on. In the mid-1920s, after returning from serving in World War I, he began working for lower-rent studios such as Goodwill Pictures, Syndicate Pictures, and Arrow Pictures. When movies with sound became popular, Jaccard's career went downhill; he directed his last film, '' Señor Jim'', in 1936. After that, he worked as a screenwriter and dialogue director. Ruth Royce
Ruth Royce (February 6, 1893 – May 7, 1971) was an American vaudeville performer and silent film actress from Versailles, Missouri. Career Royce appeared in the serial, '' The Vanishing Dagger'' (1920), which starred Eddie Polo and C. Norman Hammond. In 1923, Royce, along with other Hollywood actors, participated in a vaudeville show at Universal City. Royce assisted Joe Bonomo with a Strong Man act. She performed in a number of western movies over the years like ''California in '49'' (1924), ''Warrior Gap'' (1925), ''Fort Frayne'' (1926), '' The Oregon Trail'' (1923), ''In the Days of Buffalo Bill'' (1922), '' Perils of the Yukon'' (1922), ''Rawhide'' (1926), ''Wolves of the Desert'' (1926), and ''Code of the Cow Country'' (1927). The latter was Royce's final film. Ruth Royce died in Los Angeles, California on May 7, 1971. Minnie Devereaux
Minnie Devereaux (1869–1923) was an American silent film actress. She was a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes in Oklahoma. More commonly known as "Minnie Provost" and occasionally "Indian Minnie," or "Minnie Ha-Ha," she held at least 14 roles, beginning in 1913 with ''Old Mammy’s Secret Code'' and ending with the 1923 release of ''The Girl of the Golden West''. A few sources say she was a Cheyenne and the daughter of a Chief Plenty Horses. However, her father is often confused with Plenty Horses who was Lakota and born the same year as Minnie. In a 1917 interview published in the ''Mack Sennett Weekly'' Provost states that she was born to Cheyenne parents who fled G. A. Custer's Army during the Battle of the Little Bighorn, an event that took place when she was eight years old. George Bunny (July 13, 1867 – April 16, 1952) was an American actor. Biography The brother of actor John Bunny, he began his career during the silent era and benefited from the name recognition of his famous brother—according to the film scholar Anthony Slide, his "silent career was based on exploitation of the family name". Of a similarly heavy build, he appeared in sixty-six films between 1915 and 1951. '' The Moving Picture World'' declared, "No one who remembers the inimitable John Bunny and the peculiar style that so endeared him to comedy lovers the world over can fail to see in George Bunny almost an exact counterpart of his famous brother."
