Current cultural impacts

Aside from societal and cultural impacts, In 2020 Tyler Okonoma won the Best Rap Album Grammy For his 2019 album ''IGOR''. During his speech he says "I never felt fully accepted in rap."Tyler expresses that during another interview, he has always felt out of place as Black man growing up. "We had this conversation just wanting to snowboard when I was 12, but someone said 'That's white people sh**t. Black people don't do that.' No, you don't do that. Don't put a damper on me and tell me what I can and can't be just because of the way everyone else was that's my same color…". In another interview regarding his Grammy win, Tyler says "...It sucks that whenever, we, and I mean guys that look like me, do anything that's genre bending, or just, anything, they always put it in a '

I felt like half of me feels like the rap nomination is a backhanded compliment." He further explains in the video that even though he's grateful to have his music be showcased to this level of prestige, he feels as if being nominated in the "rap" category allowed for him to acknowledge the continuous limitation set on Black people. He describes the feeling as being a young family member given an unplugged remote while everyone gets to use the plugged in ones just so the younger family can "shut up", and feel included. Aside from music, he has impacted and encouraged the younger generation to follow their own dreams. Simply put during his interview with Converse, "Believe in your shit". He says that we should have full confidence in our creations and go full go through with them. Also quoted from Tyler, the Creator's Facebook page, he writes a note to his fans saying they should all love themselves. He says, "...you will start trusting yourself, then you trust your ideas, then you fucking become that person you really want to be." He shares his knowledge on how authenticity has got him far and wishes that for everyone else. He constantly uses his platform to encourage authenticity and working towards your goals. Being a black, sexually noncomfoming man, who has never fit into the categories of society, helps to show that the stereotypes and restrictions set on black people are unsound. In his song, Where the Flower Blooms, he says "Tell these Black kids they could be who they are. Dye your hair blue, shit, I do it too." He exudes this mentality through his lifestyle and stylistic choices. He's never been afraid to speak his mind, even if it's at the Grammys.
