Como used the song for the first time in his 1981 Christmas special, from which RCA lifted a recording for a new compilation of Christmas songs, plus a Christmas single. Around the same time, Como recorded eight new songs for an album whose working title was Goodbye for Now, a Stephen Sondheim song from the motion picture Reds.
