reversed field pinch A reversed-field pinch (RFP) is a device used to produce and contain near-thermonuclear Plasma (physics), plasmas. It is a Pinch (magnetic fusion), toroidal pinch which uses a unique magnetic field configuration as a scheme to magnetically con ...
device presently in operation, situated in Padua, Italy. It was constructed from 1985 to 1991, and has been in operation since 1992. The experiments carried out in the last two decades with two large RFP machines (MST in Madison, Wisconsin and RFX in Padova) provided new insight on the physical phenomena taking place in magnetically confined plasma dynamics.P. Martin et al. 2013 Nucl. Fusion 53 104018. doi:10.1088/0029-5515/53/10/104018 (September 2013, IAEA, Vienna)
