History

Neyruz is first mentioned in 1137 as ''Nuerus''. In 1138 it was mentioned as ''Nuruos''. The municipality was formerly known by its German name ''Rauschenbach'', however, that name is no longer used.


Geography

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 7.6% and transportation infrastructure made up 5.6%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 40.8% is used for growing crops and 16.1% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water. The municipality is located in the Sarine district, on the left bank of the Glane river.
