event from 1916 to 1940. In fact, it was one of the "major" tournaments of this period. In 1941, however, the Metropolitan Golf Association "discontinued" the event citing that it was a "financial burden." At the end of the decade, however, the organization renewed the event and it has evolved one the premier local events in the tri-state area.
