Here is a list of mergers in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan since the Heisei era.


Mergers from April 1, 1999 to Present

*On April 1, 2004 - The former cities of Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka, Shimizu and Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Shizuoka were merged to create the designated city of Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Shizuoka. The former city of Shimizu is co-extensive to current Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka, Shimizu-ku. *On April 1, 2004 - The former town of Omaezaki (from Haibara District, Shizuoka, Haibara District) absorbed the town of Hamaoka, Shizuoka, Hamaoka (from Ogasa District, Shizuoka, Ogasa District) to create the city of Omaezaki, Shizuoka, Omaezaki. *On April 1, 2004 - The towns of Amagiyugashima, Shizuoka, Amagiyugashima, Nakaizu, Shizuoka, Nakaizu, Shuzenji, Shizuoka, Shuzenji and Toi, Shizuoka, Toi (all from Tagata District, Shizuoka, Tagata District) were merged to create the city of Izu, Shizuoka, Izu. *On January 17, 2005 - The former town Kikugawa absorbed the town of Ogasa, Shizuoka, Ogasa (both from Ogasa District, Shizuoka, Ogasa District) to create the city of Kikugawa, Shizuoka, Kikugawa. *On April 1, 2005 - The towns of Izunagaoka, Shizuoka, Izunagaoka, Nirayama, Shizuoka, Nirayama and Ohito, Shizuoka, Ohito (all from Tagata District, Shizuoka, Tagata District) were merged to create the city of Izunokuni, Shizuoka, Izunokuni. *On April 1, 2005 - The village of Kamo, Shizuoka, Kamo (from Kamo District, Shizuoka, Kamo District) was merged into the expanded town of Nishiizu, Shizuoka, Nishiizu. *On April 1, 2005 - The town of Asaba, Shizuoka, Asaba (from Iwata District, Shizuoka, Iwata District) was merged into the expanded city of Fukuroi, Shizuoka, Fukuroi. *On April 1, 2005 - The old city of Kakegawa, Shizuoka, Kakegawa absorbed the towns of Daitō, Shizuoka, Daitō and Ōsuka, Shizuoka, Ōsuka (both from Ogasa District, Shizuoka, Ogasa District) to create the new and expanded city of Kakegawa, Shizuoka, Kakegawa. Ogasa District, Shizuoka, Ogasa District was dissolved as a result of this merger. *On April 1, 2005 - The old city of Iwata, Shizuoka, Iwata absorbed the towns of Fukude, Shizuoka, Fukude, Ryūyō, Shizuoka, Ryūyō and Toyoda, Shizuoka, Toyoda, and the village of Toyooka, Shizuoka, Toyooka (all from Iwata District, Shizuoka, Iwata District) to create the new and expanded city of Iwata, Shizuoka, Iwata. *On April 1, 2005 - The village of Heda, Shizuoka, Heda (from Tagata District, Shizuoka, Tagata District) was merged into the expanded city of Numazu, Shizuoka, Numazu. *On May 5, 2005 - the old city of Shimada, Shizuoka, Shimada absorbed the town of Kanaya, Shizuoka, Kanaya (from Haibara District, Shizuoka, Haibara District) to create the new and expanded city of Shimada, Shizuoka, Shimada (2nd one). *On July 1, 2005 - The old city of Hamamatsu absorbed the cities of Tenryū, Shizuoka, Tenryū and Hamakita, Shizuoka, Hamakita, the town of Haruno, Shizuoka, Haruno (from Shūchi District, Shizuoka, Shūchi District), the towns of Hosoe, Shizuoka, Hosoe, Inasa, Shizuoka, Inasa and Mikkabi, Shizuoka, Mikkabi (all from Inasa District, Shizuoka, Inasa District), the towns of Misakubo, Shizuoka, Misakubo and Sakuma, Shizuoka, Sakuma, the village of Tatsuyama, Shizuoka, Tatsuyama (all from Iwata District, Shizuoka, Iwata District), and the towns of Maisaka, Shizuoka, Maisaka and Yūtō, Shizuoka, Yūtō (both from Hamana District, Shizuoka, Hamana District) to create the new and all merged into the expanded city of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Hamamatsu. Inasa District, Shizuoka, Inasa District and Iwata District, Shizuoka, Iwata District were both dissolved as a result of this merger and also there are no more villages left in Shizuoka Prefecture as a result of this merger. *On September 20, 2005 - The towns of Honkawane, Shizuoka, Honkawane and Nakakawane, Shizuoka, Nakakawane (both from Haibara District, Shizuoka, Haibara District) were merged to create the town of Kawanehon, Shizuoka, Kawanehon. *On October 11, 2005 - The towns of Haibara, Shizuoka, Haibara and Sagara, Shizuoka, Sagara (both from Haibara District, Shizuoka, Haibara District) were merged to create the city of Makinohara, Shizuoka, Makinohara. *On March 1, 2006 - The town of Kanbara, Shizuoka, Kanbara (from Ihara District, Shizuoka, Ihara District) was merged into the expanded city of ''Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Shizuoka'', specifically at ''Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka, Shimizu-ku''. *On April 1, 2008 - The town of Kawane, Shizuoka, Kawane (from Haibara District, Shizuoka, Haibara District) was merged into the expanded city of ''Shimada, Shizuoka, Shimada'' (2nd one). *On November 1, 2008 - The town of Fujikawa, Shizuoka, Fujikawa (from Ihara District, Shizuoka, Ihara District) was merged into the expanded city of Fuji, Shizuoka, Fuji. *On November 1, 2008 - the town of Yui, Shizuoka, Yui (from Ihara District, Shizuoka, Ihara District) was merged into the expanded city of ''Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Shizuoka'', specifically at ''Shimizu-ku, Shizuoka, Shimizu-ku''. Ihara District, Shizuoka, Ihara District was dissolved as a result of this merger. *On November 1, 2008 - The town of Ōigawa, Shizuoka, Ōigawa (from Shida District, Shizuoka, Shida District) was merged into the expanded city of Yaizu, Shizuoka, Yaizu; leaving Shida District, Shizuoka, Shida District with one municipality. *On January 1, 2009 - The town of Okabe, Shizuoka, Okabe (from Shida District, Shizuoka, Shida District) was merged into the expanded city of Fujieda, Shizuoka, Fujieda. Shida District, Shizuoka, Shida District was dissolved as a result of this merger. *On March 23, 2010 - The town of Shibakawa, Shizuoka, Shibakawa (from Fuji District, Shizuoka, Fuji District) was merged into the expanded city of Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, Fujinomiya. Fuji District, Shizuoka, Fuji District was dissolved as a result of this merger. *On March 23, 2010 - The town of Arai, Shizuoka, Arai (from Hamana District, Shizuoka, Hamana District) was merged into the expanded city of Kosai, Shizuoka, Kosai. Hamana District, Shizuoka, Hamana District was dissolved as a result of this merger.
