This article gives an overview of liberalism in

. It is limited to liberal parties with substantial support, mainly proved by having had representation in the National Assembly of Armenia.


Background

Prior to Armenia's independence, a national liberal movement arose in the country. Armenia officially gained its independence in 1991 from the
Soviet Union The Soviet Union,. officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. (USSR),. was a transcontinental country that spanned much of Eurasia from 1922 to 1991. A flagship communist state, it was nominally a federal union of fifteen nationa ...
. Following which, there were some attempts to establish a national liberal movement, however, these initial attempts were largely unsuccessful.

merged in exile with the Liberal Party into the Democratic Liberal Party (Ramgavar Azadagan Party). This party continued operating in exile and is said to be represented in the first parliament after Armenian independence in the 1990s.
