Name

In the 2011 decree that created the region, La Mé was referred to exclusively as the region of "Massan".Décret n° 2011-263 du 28 septembre 2011 portant organisation du territoire national en Districts et en Régions
Since its creation, the region has more commonly been referred to as "La Mé".
