History

The ancient name of the town was Jáwáli , so called in honour of its founder , a Brahman anchorite. Brahmans still hold possession here, and most of land belongs to them.

History records that the town was named after the sage Maharshi Jaawali. In the west of Jewar at a distance of {{convert, 1, km, spell=in is an ashram and an old temple of the Maharshi.
