'' und '' milli'', und die vier ersten durch Multiplicationen mit zehn entstehenden höheren Einheiten durch Vorsetzung der aus dem Griechischen entnommenen Worte '' deka'', '' hekto'', '' kilo'' und '' myria'' benannt. Ich schlage nun vor, zur Benennung der durch weitere Divisionen mit zehn entstehenden niederen und der durch weitere Multiplicationen mit zehn entstehenden höheren Einheiten ebenfalls lateinische und griechische Zahlwörter anzuwenden, aber Ordinalzahlwörter, welche die negativen oder positiven Exponenten der Potenzen von zehn, mit welchen die Haupteinheit zu multipliciren ist, angeben, so dass z. B. beim Meter die fünfte niedere Einheit 1m·10−5 Quintometer und die fünfte höhere Einheit 1m·105 Pemptometer heisst, und entsprechend beim Gramm und den anderen Haupteinheiten. Hiernach haben wir die im obigen Maasssysteme vorkommende Masse 1gr·10−11 ein Undecimogramm und die Länge 1m·107 ein Hebdomometer zu nennen. Das practische Maasssystem ist somit vollständig characterisirt durch den Namen: das electrodynamische Maasssystem Undecimogramm Hebdomometer Secunde. Dieser Name prägt sich leicht dem Gedächtnisse ein und mit ihm ist der Zweck einer näheren Bestimmung des Systemes viel vollkommener erreicht, als wenn man sagt, es sei das electrodynamische Maasssystem Gramm Centimeter Secunde, in welchem aber jede Einheit noch mit einer besonders anzugebenden Potenz von zehn multiplicirt werden müsse.
