Wahl's body was repatriated to the United States on December 12 to undergo an autopsy with the New York City Medical Examiner, which determined that the death was caused by a ruptured aortic aneurysm. Wahl had complained of chest discomfort and sought help at the medical clinic at the World Cup media center, where he was told that he probably had
