History

The station opened as part of the former Line 2 South on 24 April 1906, when it was extended from Passy to Place d'Italie. On 14 October 1907 ''Line 2 South'' was incorporated into Line 5. It was incorporated into line 6 on 12 October 1942. The station is named after the ''Rue de la Glacière'' (meaning "iceworks street") because, before the invention of the electric refrigerator, ice was collected in the area from the ponds of the river Bièvre during the winter and stored for the summer in wells built for the purpose. It was the location of the ''Barrière de Glacière'' (or ''Barrière de l'Ourcine'' during the

Platforms

Glacière is a standard configuration elevated station. It has two platforms separated by metro tracks, all covered by a glass roof in the style of the steel railway station marquees of the time. The vertical walls are covered with white ceramic tiles on the inside and brick with geometric patterns on the outside.
