History
A post office called Edgerton has been in operation since 1871. The community was named after one Mr. Edgerton, a railroad employee.Geography
Edgerton is located along Missouri Route B, Missouri routes B and Z. The community is 1.5 miles east of the Platte River on Grove Creek. The Smithville Lake, Smithville Reservoir is about six miles east in adjacent Clinton County, Missouri, Clinton County. There were 210 households, of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.9% were Marriage, married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 23.3% were non-families. 20.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 2.97. The median age in the city was 40.2 years. 24.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26% were from 25 to 44; 31.4% were from 45 to 64; and 11% were 65 years of age or older.
