The club applied to have the area's name changed to Cromer and permission was granted to create the new suburb. Cromer Post Office opened on 1 September 1959 and closed in 1992.

In the 2016 Census, there were 7,592 people in Cromer. 71.8% of people were born in Australia. The most common other countries of birth were England 6.7%, New Zealand 1.9% and Italy 1.4%. 82.9% of people spoke only English at home. Other languages spoken at home included Italian at 2.1%. The most common responses for religion were No Religion 29.4%, Catholic 27.5% and Anglican 19.7%.
