, Hungary's score has decreased by twelve points over the last ten years. In 2021, the Index scored Hungary at 43 on a scale from 0 ("highly corrupt") to 100 ("highly clean"). When ranked by score, Hungary ranked 73rd among the 180 countries in the Index, where the country ranked first is perceived to have the most honest public sector. For comparison, the best score was 88 (ranked 1), and the worst score was 11 (ranked 180).


Murder

In 2019, Hungary had 60 intentional homicides at a rate of 0.61 per 100,000 according to the office of the prosecutor general. In 2020, the homicide rate was 0.83 per 100,000.


General

Between 2008–2013, there were an average of 4,000 crimes against every 100,000 members of the population, of which at least 50% were considered serious crimes. As of 2017 the number of crimes had fallen to 2,315 per 100,000.
