History

Cactus Club Cafe was founded in 1988 by two former Earls waiters, Richard Jaffray and Scott Morison. The partners started with a restaurant named "Café Cucamongas", which they sold in 1988 to fund the establishment of the Cactus Club. In 1996, the company expanded into

during a financially challenging time period. The organization continued to thrive and by 1998 the company expanded to 10 locations in British Columbia and Alberta. In 2005, Richard Jaffray bought out Scott Morison's interest in the business; Morison has gone on to establish Browns Socialhouse, a similar chain of Canadian premium casual restaurants. According to a 2019 legal judgement filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia: "Mr. Jaffray owns 50% of the voting shares and other shares equal to a 35% interest. Earl’s Holdings Ltd. also owns 50% of the voting share and other shares equal to a 45% interest. Stanley, the Fuller Family Trust, Rockefuller and Cacthold own the balance of the other shares equal to a 20% interest but no voting shares."
