İrmaşlı (pronounced Irmashly) is a large village and municipality in the Shamkir Rayon of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 4,001. History İrmaşlı combines an ancient Azerbaijani settlement with the 19th-century German 'colony' village of Eigenfeld (mis-spelled phonetically as Eichenfeld or Aigenfeld in some sources). Daşbulaq is a village and municipality in the Shamkir Rayon of Azerbaijan. It has a population of 591 and sits on a ridgetop in the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus. Shamkir Rayon
Shamkir District ( az, Şəmkir rayonu) is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the north-west of the country and belongs to the Gazakh-Tovuz Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Gadabay, Tovuz, Samukh, Goygol, and Dashkasan. Its capital and largest city is Shamkir. As of 2020, the district had a population of 219,500. Germans In Azerbaijan
Germans have lived in Azerbaijan since the 1810s, with a large concentration of them once found in the western part of the country. The community grew out of two original settlements founded by German settlers from Württemberg who settled here in 1819. During World War II, it virtually ceased to exist as the Soviet government, which ruled Azerbaijan at the time, grew wary of the ethnic Germans potentially sympathising with the advancing army of the Third Reich and deported them to Central Asia in 1942. Azerbaijan is administratively divided into 66 districts () and 11 cities () that are subordinate to the Republic. Out of these, 7 districts and 1 city is located within the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The districts are further divided into municipalities (). Mark Elliott is an English travel writer best known for books on Azerbaijan, and for unusual map-based route guides for Asia. Though long out of print, Elliott's '' Asia Overland'' co-authored with Wil Klass, garnered something of a cult following among overland travellers during the late 1990s. Elliott's 2003 ''South-East Asia: The Graphic Guide'', also based mostly on schematic maps, remains in considerable demand among travellers with prices for second hand copies reaching absurdly high levels (nearly US$1000 a copy in November 2009).
