Elina (Epirus)
Elina ( el, Ελίνα) was an ancient Greek, Hellenistic fortified town in the region of Epirus. The site is known locally as Dymokastro, west of the village of Perdika. Hammond discussed the site and identified it with ancient Elina. It overlooked the site of the Battle of Syvota between Corcyra (modern Corfu) and Corinth at the start of the Peloponnesian War and was the largest naval battle between Greek city states until that time and was one of the immediate catalysts for the war. The city flourished from the Late Classical to the Roman times and was named after the Thesprotean tribe of Elinoi that lived in the region. It is estimated that, during the period of its peak, the population of the city reached 6000. The walls are reinforced by rectangular towers and date to the 4th century BC. Elina Siirala
Elina Siirala (born 27 October 1983) is a Finnish soprano. She is the founder and frontwoman for the English melodic metal band Angel Nation (formerly EnkElination) and the current female vocalist for the German symphonic metal/viking metal band Leaves' Eyes. Elina is the second cousin of Tuomas Holopainen, founder and keyboardist of Nightwish. Career After completing a bachelor's degree in classical singing in Helsinki, Elina moved to London in 2008 to study contemporary vocals. Aino Elina Salo (born 9 March 1936 in Sipoo, Finland) is a Finnish film, theatre and television actress who has also done work in radio as a voice actor in children’s programming. In her career that began in 1956, Salo has appeared in over 50 films and television shows and is known for her appearances in several Aki Kaurismäki’s films. Armi Elina Annikki Pohjanpää (8 April 1933, in Helsinki – 13 January 1996) was a Finnish actress. Her theatrical career lasted for 40 years, and in addition, she appeared in several Finnish films by directors such as Ilmari Unho, Aarne Tarkas and Matti Kassila. In theatre Pohjanpää's career started in a Kotka City Theatre in 1952 where she also met her future husband Pentti Siimes. The two got married in 1956, and their marriage lasted until Pohjanpää's death. Elina Partõka (born 2 August 1983) is an Estonian former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. She is a three-time Olympian (2000, 2004, and 2008), and a daughter of Valentin Partyka, who competed in both 200 and 400 m individual medley at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, representing the Soviet Union. Partoka made her first Estonian team, as a 17-year-old swimming teen at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. There, she failed to reach the semifinals in any of her individual events, finishing twenty-ninth in the 100 m freestyle (57.71), and thirty-first in the 200 m freestyle (2:05.90). Elina Vavailagi Nasaudrodro (born December 22, 1985, in Suva) is a Fijian judoka who competed in the women's lightweight category. She won a bronze medal in the 57-kg division at the 2004 Oceania Judo Championships in Noumea, New Caledonia, and represented her nation Fiji at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens at the age of eighteen. Elina Emily Mottram, (1903–1996) was an England-born architect trained in Brisbane. She was Queensland’s first and longest practicing female architect, practicing and establishing her own business in Brisbane from 1924 to 1975. Mottram died at the age of 93 in 1996.
