Baganga, Davao Oriental
Baganga (), officially the Municipality of Baganga, is a 1st class municipality in the province of Davao Oriental, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 58,714 people, making it the third largest town in province. It is the largest among the municipalities and city in the province in terms of land area, and is considered the chief town of the province's 1st legislative district. Etymology Baganga got its name from a thorny bush having plum like fruits that were abundant during the Spanish arrival. Others say that it was referred to a big mouth of a river that traversed the central part of the town. History The Mandaya tribes having a colourful presentation in giving receptions to the hungry Spaniards has encouraged the survivors to report to Spain how beautiful the town was. Caraga, officially the Municipality of Caraga ( ceb, Lungsod sa Caraga; tl, Bayan ng Caraga), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Davao Oriental, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 39,704 people. It is one of the oldest settlements in the island of Mindanao. The Pusan Point located in the town of Caraga is geographically the easternmost point of the Philippines. Bislig
Bislig, officially the City of Bislig ( ceb, Dakbayan sa Bislig; fil, Lungsod ng Bislig), is a 3rd class component city in the province of Surigao del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 99,290 people. It is the most populous among the cities and municipalities in the province of Surigao del Sur. Barangay Mangagoy, the downtown area often dubbed by its residents as "the little city within the city", is the center of trade and industry of Bislig which has a population of 32,464 as of the 2015 estimate. It is the largest barangay in the city and the entire province of Surigao del Sur in terms of population. The ''encomienda'' () was a Spanish labour system that rewarded conquerors with the labour of conquered non-Christian peoples.
