Zele () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders, around 20 km east of Ghent. The municipality only comprises the town of Zele proper. In 2021, Zele had a total population of 21,333. The total area is 33.06 km2 which gives a population density. Filip De Wilde
Filip Alfons De Wilde (born 5 July 1964) is a former Belgian professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. During a 23-year professional career he played mainly with Anderlecht, appearing in nearly 400 official games in two different spells. He also competed in Portugal and Austria. De Wilde represented Belgium for 11 years, playing for the country in three World Cups and Euro 2000. Club career De Wilde was born in Zele, East Flanders. At the age of nine he entered local Eendracht Zele's youth system, joining the famous K.S.K. Beveren goalkeeper school in 1980. He then signed for R.S.C. Basile De Loose
Basile De Loose (17 December 1809 – 24 October 1885) was a Belgian painter. He was born in Zele, East Flanders, United Kingdom of the Netherlands, on 17 December 1809, to Johannes Josephus de Loose. Also his father was a painter. Twelve paintings by his father hang in the church of Zele, where also one painting by Basile De Loose is located (''The Way of the Cross''). He was trained in Antwerp and by 1835 was active in Paris. De Loose was trained by his father, and was also a pupil of Mattheus Ignatius van Bree. Lieven Maesschalck (born 1964 in Zele) is a Belgian physiotherapist who worked among others with the Belgian national football team. As a physiotherapist he also treats multiple sportsmen. Biography In 1987 he took over the private practice of his father in Lebbeke. In 1996 he was hired by the cycling team Mapei. In the same year he went to the Atlanta Summer Olympics with the national judo and swimming federations. In 1998 he opened a second practice in Antwerp. In 2001 Maesschalck started the concept "Move To Cure" and in the same year he was hired by the national football team of Belgium (''the Red Devils''). In 2006 also the Italian team AC Milan asked for his services. From 2010 on he became the head of the medical staff of the Belgian national football team. Caroline Maes (born 9 November 1982) is a former Belgian tennis player. Maes has been active in the singles game since 1997 and doubles since 1999. The highest place she ever achieved in the WTA rankings in singles is 151st on 28 May 2007. In doubles, she got to the No. 135, on 11 February 2008. She could not win a WTA tournament, but won eight tournaments in singles and nine in doubles on the ITF Women's Circuit. Her last and most important ITF title was the $100k tournament in Rome, on 19 May 2007, defeating Yuliya Beygelzimer and Stéphanie Cohen-Aloro on her way to the final, where she beat former top-50 player Marta Marrero from Spain. Pierre De Decker
Pierre (Pieter) Jacques François de Decker (25 January 1812 – 4 January 1891) was a Belgian Roman Catholic politician, statesman and author. He was educated at a Jesuit school, studied law at Paris, and became one of the editors of the '' Revue de Bruxelles''. In 1839 he was elected to the Belgian lower chamber, where he gained a great reputation for oratory. He was a member of parliament from 1839 to 1866. As such he took historic initiatives to promote the Dutch language that had lost ground in political life since the Belgian Revolution of 1830 (against the Union with Holland as the United Kingdom of the Netherlands) even though the majority of the population spoke Dutch. Aloïs De Beule
Aloïs De Beule (27 August 1861 in Zele – 15 December 1935 in Ghent) was a Belgian sculptor. Biography Aged ten he entered his father's shoemaking business. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the Sint-Lucasschool in Ghent where he won the first prize in sculpture in 1888. In 1889 he and his brother Emile De Beule set up a studio together. They began in a barn in the Sint-Pietersdorp (Sint-Pieters-Aalst) district of Ghent, on the spot where '' Het Ros Beiaard'' stands - he produced that sculpture for the World Exhibition of 1913 in Ghent, in collaboration with Domien Ingels, an animal sculptor, and it proved a breakthrough for both of them. Lokeren () is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders, and belongs to the Waasland, also called ''Land van Waas'', of which it is the second most important city after Sint-Niklaas. Dendermonde (; french: Termonde, ) is a city in the Flemish province of East Flanders in Belgium.
