William Perry (Queensland Businessman)
William Perry (1835–1891) was a business man and politician in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life William Perry was born in 1835 in Sydney, New South Wales, the son of William and Louisa (née Dodd). Business life In June 1860, William Perry moved to Brisbane with his brother George to establish a hardware business; their brother Frederick later joined them. In August 1860, the Perry Brothers opened their business in Queen Street (where the Wintergarden Centre is in 2014). Business was successful and in 1865 they built new premises next door which they later extended back to Elizabeth Street. In 1876 his brother in law, Henry James Harcourt (1820-1909), also an Iron Monger, helped the business and "between the death of the late Mr. W Perry and the advent of his sons into the firm acted in a very responsible way in the business". William Stevens Perry
William Stevens Perry (January 22, 1832 – May 13, 1898) was a 19th-century bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States of America and an educator. He served as the second bishop of the Diocese of Iowa from 1876 to 1898. Biography Early life and ministry He was born at Providence, Rhode Island, studied at Brown University, but took his degree from Harvard in 1854. He studied theology at Virginia Theological Seminary before finishing his studies privately. He was ordained a deacon at Grace Church in Newton, Massachusetts, and a priest (1858) at St. Paul's, Boston, where he spent the first year of his ministry. William Haggin Perry
William Haggin Perry (December 5, 1910 - November 12, 1993) was an American owner and breeder of thoroughbred racehorses. Early life Perry was the son of Henry Pierrepont Perry, a Wall Street stockbroker, and Edith Lounsbery, who was the daughter of Richard P. Lounsbery and Edith Hunter Haggin who in turn was the daughter of one of America's most prominent horsemen, James Ben Ali Haggin. The Ben Ali Haggin family were the descendants of Ibrahim Ben Ali, who was one of the first Turkish settlers to the United States. Although born in New York City, Perry spent a good deal of his childhood at Rancho Del Paso, the huge Haggin family ranch in Sacramento County, California. The family owned a summer estate in Newport, Rhode Island and young Perry studied there at St. George's School before going on to Yale University. William Perry (died 1948) was an Anglican priest. He was educated at the University of Aberdeen, he was ordained after a period of study at Edinburgh Theological College in 1894. He served curacies in Greenock and Edinburgh. He was Vice-Principal of Edinburgh Theological College from 1897 to 1899. He held incumbencies in Alloa, Stirling and Selkirk; and was Provost of St Andrew's Cathedral, Aberdeen from 1910 to 1912. William Perry (cricketer)
William Perry (12 August 1830 – 15 March 1913) was an English cricketer. Perry's batting and bowling styles are unknown, though it is known he fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born at Oxford, Oxfordshire. Perry initially played for early teams representative of Oxfordshire and Berkshire, and then moved to the north-west of England, where he played for Liverpool Cricket Club. He made his first-class debut for the North against the South in 1856 at Broughton Cricket Club Ground. The North batted first, making 219 all out, with Perry ending the innings unbeaten on 11. The South then reached 46/3 in their first-innings, at which point poor weather intervened and the match ended as a draw. He continued to play for Liverpool Cricket Club as an effective bowler over the next decade, before being selected to play in Lancashire's inaugural first-class match against Middlesex at Old Trafford in 1865. William Anthony "The Refrigerator" Perry (born December 16, 1962) is a former American football defensive tackle who played in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons, primarily with the Chicago Bears. Nicknamed "the Refrigerator" because of his imposing size, he played college football at Clemson and was selected by the Bears in the first round of the 1985 NFL Draft. Perry gained popularity during his rookie season as a member of the Bears team that won the franchise's first and only Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XX. During the season, Perry occasionally played fullback in goal line situations and set the then-record for the heaviest player to score a touchdown at 335 lb (152 kg). William Perry (boxer)
William Perry (1819 – 24 December 1880), known as "The Tipton Slasher" after his native town of Tipton, was a British heavyweight prize fighter of the 19th century and claimed the championship of England, with some dispute, for two periods between 1850 and 1857. His fighting career began in London in 1835 and after fighting a number of highly rated championship contenders, he first claimed the English heavyweight championship by defeating Tom Paddock in twenty-seven rounds on 17 December 1850. In 1851 he lost the English heavyweight title in a controversial referee's decision to Harry Broome which he strongly disputed. After the leading contenders of the day refused to fight him, Perry reclaimed the English title until Tom Sayers defeated him in a championship bout in 1857.
