Walsh County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,563. Its county seat is Grafton. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on May 2, 1881, with areas partitioned from Grand and Pembina counties. It was organized on August 30 of that same year, with Grafton as county seat. It was named for George H. Walsh (1845–1913), a newspaperman and politician in Grand Forks. Geography Walsh County lies on the eastern side of North Dakota. Its east boundary line abuts the west boundary line of the state of Minnesota (across the Red River). The Red River flows north along the east side of the county on its way to Hudson Bay in Canada. Walsh University is a private Roman Catholic university in North Canton, Ohio. It enrolls approximately 2,700 students and was founded in 1960 by the Brothers of Christian Instruction as a liberal arts college. Walsh College became Walsh University in 1993. In mathematics, more specifically in harmonic analysis, Walsh functions form a complete orthogonal set of functions that can be used to represent any discrete function—just like trigonometric functions can be used to represent any continuous function in Fourier analysis. They can thus be viewed as a discrete, digital counterpart of the continuous, analog system of trigonometric functions on the unit interval. But unlike the sine and cosine functions, which are continuous, Walsh functions are piecewise constant. They take the values −1 and +1 only, on sub-intervals defined by dyadic fractions. In mathematics, a Walsh matrix is a specific square matrix of dimensions 2, where ''n'' is some particular natural number. The entries of the matrix are either +1 or −1 and its rows as well as columns are orthogonal, i.e. dot product is zero. The Walsh matrix was proposed by Joseph L. Walsh in 1923. Each row of a Walsh matrix corresponds to a Walsh function. The Walsh matrices are a special case of Hadamard matrices. USS ''Walsh'' (APD-111) was a United States Navy ''Crosley''-class high-speed transport in commission from 1945 to 1946. She was scrapped in 1968. Namesake Patrick Joseph Walsh was born on 19 January 1908 in New York City. He accepted a commission in the United States Naval Reserve as a lieutenant, junior grade, on 4 May 1942. He received instruction at the Naval Training School, Boston, Massachusetts, and later received more specialized training at the Armed Guard School at Little Creek, Virginia, from 16 June 1942 to 22 July 1942. Walsh was Naval Armed Guard detachment commander aboard the merchant ship SS ''Patrick J.
