WANE-TV (channel 15) is a television station in Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States, affiliated with CBS and owned by Nexstar Media Group. The station's studios and transmitter are located on West State Boulevard in the Tower Heights section of the city. However, master control and some internal operations are based at the Indianapolis studios of CBS affiliate WTTV and Fox affiliate WXIN. History The station signed on the air on September 26, 1954, as WINT, originally broadcasting its signal from a transmitter in Auburn. While it was the Fort Wayne area's second television station, it was originally licensed to, and had studios in, Waterloo, north of the city. It is owned by Gray Television alongside CW+ affiliate WISE-TV (channel 33). Both stations share studios on Butler Road in Northwest Fort Wayne, where WPTA's transmitter is also located. It was founded by Sarkes Tarzian, an Indianapolis engineer whose company owned Bloomington's WTTV and several other stations in Indiana. The NTA Film Network was an early American television network founded by Ely Landau in 1956. The network was not a full-time television network like CBS, NBC, or ABC. Rather, it operated on a part-time basis, broadcasting films and several first-run television programs from major Hollywood studios. Despite attracting over 100 affiliate stations and the financial support of Twentieth Century-Fox (which purchased a 50% share of NTA in November 1956), the network proved unprofitable and was discontinued by 1961. WIOE (1450 AM) is a commercial oldies radio station licensed to serve Fort Wayne, Indiana. Owned by Brian Walsh, the station services the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Area and much of surrounding Northeastern Indiana as a full-power simulcast of WIOE (101.1 FM), licensed to nearby South Whitley. WIOE also simulcasts over Fort Wayne translator W282CH (104.3 FM). UHF television broadcasting is the use of ultra high frequency (UHF) radio for over-the-air transmission of television signals. UHF frequencies are used for both analog and digital television broadcasts. UHF channels are typically given higher channel numbers, like the US arrangement with VHF channels (initially) 1 to 13, and UHF channels (initially) numbered 14 to 83. WINM (channel 12) is a religious television station licensed to Angola, Indiana, United States, serving the Fort Wayne area as owned-and-operated station of Tri-State Christian Television (TCT). The station's transmitter is located in unincorporated Williams County, Ohio (in the Toledo market), near the Indiana state line, midway between Butler, Indiana, and Edgerton, Ohio. Though most of the city proper is adequately covered by the main signal, WINM's signal is relayed in Fort Wayne on digital translator WEIJ-LD (channel 38).
