''Oolkatal'' or ''Ulkadal'' () is a 1979 Malayalam-language musical- romantic drama film directed by K. G. George and starring Venu Nagavally and Sobha. The film, considered to be the first campus film in Malayalam, was adapted from the novel of the same name by George Onakkoor. It was shot mainly from Mar Ivanios College, Trivandrum. Plot The film's protagonist is Rahulan who loves three different women in different stages of his life. After his childhood love Thulasi commits suicide, Rahulan falls in love with his friend's sister Reena. She hails from an orthodox Christian family and Rahulan never has the courage to approach her father for a marriage proposal. After completing college, Rahulan gets a teacher job. Thilakan
Palappurathu Kesavan Surendranatha Thilakan (15 July 1935 – 24 September 2012) was an Indian film and stage actor who appeared in over 200 Malayalam films. Thilakan was known for his elaborate method acting, realistic and spontaneous appearances. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest Indian actors of all time. Early life Thilakan was the second of the six children of Palapurath T. S. Keshavan (1904–1972) and Devayani (1912–2010). Chandrashekaran Menon, better known by his screen name Sankaradi (14 July 1924 – 8 October 2001), was an Indian actor. He was a veteran Malayalam comedian and character artist, who had over 700 Malayalam films to his credit. He dominated the Malayalam film scene in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s as a comedian along with Adoor Bhasi and Bahadoor. Later, he switched to character roles.
