The site currently provides information on more than 1,500 British game show formats from 1938 to the present day, over 500 mini-biographies of hosts, along with numerous other background articles. The site hosts over 5,000 articles, including a weekly news and reviews column "Weaver's Week", written by Iain Weaver, which launched in 2001. History The UKGameshows.com website was originally called The UK Game Show Page, a small section of game show fan Chris M. Dickson's personal website. This was set up in 1996 as a spin-off from his popular email discussion list, ukgs-l (since succeeded by a Yahoo Groups list). The page consisted of rules sheets for some game shows of the time, as well as "Chris Compares" programme reviews and various links of interest. Duel (British Game Show)
''Duel'' is an ITV game show based on a format by Francophone production company French TV, hosted by Nick Hancock, broadcast on Saturday evenings. It ran from 19 January to 5 April 2008. Format Each 'Duel' consists of two contestants, who each began the game with 10 poker chips, which in turn each have the same monetary value. They are asked multiple-choice general knowledge questions without time limits, each with four possible answers, one of which was correct. The contestants are asked to cover the answer they believed to be correct with their chip; if they are unsure, they are permitted to cover up to four answers with their chips, to ensure that they have a chip on the right answer when revealed. Once satisfied they had done so, each contestant is asked to confirm their answer by pressing the 'Lock Down' button, at which point the further placement or removal of chips was halted. A game show is a genre of broadcast viewing entertainment (radio, television, internet, stage or other) where contestants compete for a reward. These programs can either be participatory or demonstrative and are typically directed by a host, sharing the rules of the program as well as commentating and narrating where necessary. On most game shows, contestants either have to answer questions or solve puzzles, typically to win either money or prizes. David J
David John Haskins (born 24 April 1957, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England), better known as David J, is a British alternative rock musician, producer, and writer. He is the bassist for the gothic rock band Bauhaus and for Love and Rockets. He has composed the scores for a number of plays and films, and also wrote and directed his own plays, ''Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of Edie Sedgwick)'', in 2008, which was restaged at REDCAT in Los Angeles in 2011, and ''The Chanteuse and The Devil's Muse'' in 2011. His artwork has been shown in galleries internationally, and he has been a resident DJ at venues such as the Knitting Factory. David J has released a number of singles and solo albums, and in 1990 he released one of the first No. 1 hits on the then nascent Modern Rock Tracks charts, with "I'll Be Your Chauffeur". ''Only Connect'' is a British television quiz show presented by Victoria Coren Mitchell. In the series, teams compete in a tournament of finding connections between seemingly unrelated clues. ''For the Rest of Your Life'' is a British game show that aired on ITV from 8 May 2007 to 28 August 2009 and was hosted by Nicky Campbell. In each game, a couple tried to win a prize consisting of a series of monthly cheques whose length and value were determined by their choices in two rounds of play. Format Round One The couple chose one of three envelopes, each containing a cash amount from £100 to £200. They then faced a gameboard consisting of several cylinders, each inserted vertically into a plinth and bearing either a red or a white light on the unseen end. Eleven lights were used for Round One, eight white and three red. The couple chose one cylinder at a time and withdrew it from its plinth to expose its light. ''Golden Balls'' was a British daytime game show that was presented by Jasper Carrott. It was broadcast on the ITV network from 18 June 2007 to 18 December 2009. Gameplay Round 1 At the back of the studio is the "Golden Bank," a giant contraption like a lottery machine. Inside are 100 golden balls, containing cash values that range from £10 to £75,000. Twelve of these balls are randomly drawn from the Golden Bank and put into a mixer, and four "Killer" balls are added by Amanda Grant, referred to by Carrott as the "Balls' Assistant" or "Killer Queen." The Mint (British Game Show)
''The Mint'' was a live, late night, interactive quiz show with celebrity guests and live studio contestants filmed on a large extravagant set designed to look like the inside of a mansion. The programme, which was dogged by criticism that its questions were ambiguous and arbitrary, aired on ITV1 and ITV2, Sunday to Wednesday. On 26 February 2007, ITV announced that ''The Mint'' would return to screens later in 2007, however an announcement on 12 September 2007 confirmed that the show, along with similar late night phone ins, would not be returning. ''PokerFace'' (also known as ''Ant & Dec's PokerFace'') is a British game show broadcast on ITV, where one person is guaranteed to win £1 million. The show was created by Ant & Dec, who also host it. As implied by the title, ''PokerFace'', is based on the bluffing aspect of poker games. The contestants do not necessarily need to get the questions right in order to win, and can bluff their way through the game and pressure their opponents into folding in order to win. The show was originally going to be called ''The Con Test'', but the name was changed just weeks before the show began. However, the Australian version is called '' The Con Test''. Series 1 of the show was aired nightly for seven consecutive days (the seventh show being the final), whilst series 2 saw the show moved to a Saturday prime-time slot, lasted for seven weeks.
