Knesset
The Knesset ( he, הַכְּנֶסֶת ; "gathering" or "assembly") is the unicameral legislature of Israel. As the supreme state body, the Knesset is sovereign and thus has complete control of the entirety of the Israeli government (with the exception of checks and balances from the courts and local governments). The Knesset passes all laws, elects the president and prime minister (although the latter is ceremonially appointed by the President), approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government, among other things. In addition, the Knesset elects the state comptroller. It also has the power to waive the immunity of its members, remove the president and the state comptroller from office, dissolve the government in a constructive vote of no confidence, and to dissolve itself and call new elections. Yoav Kish
Yoav Kisch ( he, יוֹאָב קִישׁ; born 6 December 1968) is an Israeli pilot and politician. Biography Kisch was born and raised in Tel Aviv. His paternal grandfather was Frederick Kisch, the highest-ranking Jew ever to serve in the British Army. Through his mother, he is a descendant of Shmuel Salant, who served as Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem in the 19th century. Kisch held British citizenship until having to renounce it in 2015 as a condition of being allowed to take up a seat in the Knesset. He holds an MBA from INSEAD. He was on the Likud Yisrael Beiteinu list for the 2013 Knesset elections, but failed to win a seat. Amir Ohana
Amir Ohana ( he, אָמִיר אוֹחָנָה, born 15 March 1976) is an Israeli lawyer, former Shin Bet official and politician who currently serves a member of the Knesset for Likud. He previously held the posts of Minister of Justice and Minister of Public Security. He was the first openly gay right-wing member of the Knesset and the first openly gay man from Likud to serve in the Knesset. He is also the first openly gay person to be appointed as a minister in the Israeli government in 2019. Sharren Haskel
Sharren Haskel ( he, שָׁרֶן הַשְׂכֵּל, born 4 March 1984) is an Israeli politician. She is a member of the Knesset for the National Unity Party, having previously served as a member of Likud and for New Hope. When she was first elected, she was the youngest member of Likud and the second youngest member of the 20th Knesset. Biography Sharren Haskel was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to a Jewish family, the middle of three sisters. Her father, Amir, was born in Israel, and is from a family of Palmach veterans from moshav Tzofit. Her mother, Fabienne, was born in Morocco. Oren Asaf Hazan ( he, אורן אסף חזן, born 28 October 1981) is an Israeli politician. He served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 2015 and 2019. Yaron Mazuz
Yaron Mazuz ( he, ירון מזוז, born 11 July 1962) is an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 2015 and 2019. He previously served as Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection. Biography Mazuz was born in Haifa to parents who had immigrated from Tunisia. He was elected to Kiryat Bialik City Council in 2008, and served as the city's Deputy Mayor. Prior to the 2015 elections he was placed 29th on the Likud list, and was elected to the Knesset as Likud won 30 seats. On 14 June he was appointed Deputy Interior Minister in the new government. In June 2015 he told Arab MKs “We are doing you people a favor by even allowing you to be seated here – terrorists won't be allowed to sit here,” and asked them to give up their Israeli citizenship. Nurit Koren ( he, נורית קורן, born 24 February 1960) is an Israeli lawyer and politician. She served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 2015 and 2019. Biography Nurit Koren was born in Jerusalem to Yemenite Jewish immigrants, and has four brothers. Her father was a laborer, truck driver, and taxi driver. Her family was traditional, and Koren attended a Bais Yaakov school. In 1971, her family moved to Kiryat Arba, and she later studied at the Givat Washington religious youth village. At age 17, she married Eli Koren, and relocated with him to Herzliya, where she studied at the Rishonim High School until she became pregnant. Later, at age 38, she began studying at the Open University of Israel, and received a BA in Social Sciences and Humanities, graduating with honors, then studied law, receiving a BA in Law from Ono Academic College and an MA in Law from Bar-Ilan University. Avraham Neguise ( he, אַבְרָהָם נֶגוּסֵה, born 10 February 1958) is an Israeli politician and activist for the Falash Mura community. Biography Avraham Neguise was born in the city of Gondar in northern Ethiopia, where he worked as a shepherd. Neguise immigrated to Israel in 1985. Avi Dichter ( he, אָבִי דִּיכְטֶר, ; born 14 December 1952) is an Israeli politician. A former Minister of Internal Security and Shin Bet director, he resigned from the Knesset and left Kadima in August 2012 in order to become Minister of Home Front Defense, a position he vacated in March 2013. Nava Prehi-Boker ( he, נאוה פרחי-בוקר, born 15 November 1970) is an Israeli journalist and politician. Biography Nava Boker was born and raised in Pardes Hanna-Karkur. Her parents were Jewish immigrants from Yemen. A journalist by profession, Boker worked for both Yedioth Ahronoth and Ma'ariv, as well as Channel 1. She married and had two daughters, then divorced. At age 27, as a reporter, she met Hadera police chief Lior Boker, and married him. Due to difficulties with obtaining a marriage certificate from the Israeli rabbinate, she married Boker in what she described as an "alternative marriage." Ayoob Kara ( ar, أيوب قرا, he, איוב קרא; born 12 March 1955) is an Israeli Druze politician. He has served as a member of the Knesset for Likud in four spells between 1999 and 2021, and as Minister of Communications. Biography Kara was born in Daliyat al-Karmel, a Druze town near Haifa, in 1955. He went to an agricultural high school in Kfar Galim. He spent a year playing professional football as a defensive back for Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv. Anat Berko ( he, ענת ברקו, born 14 January 1960) is an Israeli criminologist and politician. An expert in the fields of counter-terrorism, she served as a member of the Knesset for Likud between 2015 and 2019. Biography Berko was born in Jerusalem to Jewish parents who had immigrated to Israel from Iraq, and was the second of six children.
