Saguaro National Park
Saguaro National Park is an American national park in Pima County, southeastern Arizona. The park consists of two separate areas—the Tucson Mountain District (TMD) about west of the city of Tucson and the Rincon Mountain District (RMD) about east of the city—that preserve Sonoran Desert landscapes, fauna, and flora, including the giant saguaro cactus. The volcanic rocks on the surface of the Tucson Mountain District differ greatly from the surface rocks of the Rincon Mountain District; over the past 30 million years, crustal stretching displaced rocks from beneath the Tucson Mountains of the Tucson Mountain District to form the Rincon Mountains of the Rincon Mountain District. Regina Romero (born September 20, 1974) is an American politician. She is mayor of Tucson, Arizona, having been elected after previously serving on the city council. She is the first woman and first person of Mexican descent to hold the office since the 1870s. Career Romero was raised in Somerton, Arizona. She graduated from Kofa High School in Yuma, Arizona, and the University of Arizona. She earned a postgraduate certificate at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Sentinel Peak (Arizona)
Sentinel Peak is a peak in the Tucson Mountains southwest of downtown Tucson, Arizona, United States. The valley's first inhabitants grew crops at the mountain's base, along the Santa Cruz River. The name "Tucson" is derived from the O'odham ' (), meaning " t thebase of the black ill. In the 1910s, University of Arizona students used local basalt rock to construct a tall block "A" on the mountain's east face, near its summit, giving the peak its other name, "A" Mountain. The peak is part of a 272-acre (110 hectares) park, the largest natural resource park in the City of Tucson. Early history The fertile land at the base of Sentinel Peak was used for agriculture from until the 1930s. Pima County Courthouse
Pima County Courthouse is the former main county courthouse building in downtown Tucson, Arizona. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by Roy Place in 1928 in Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival style architecture. The building previously housed the Pima County Superior Court (1930–1977) and later, the Pima County Consolidated Justice Court (1977–2015), which handled lower-level state criminal matters and small claims cases. As of February 2015, court proceedings for Justice Court were held in a newer building shared with other Pima County departments, which is located at 240 North Stone Avenue. Superior Court proceedings were held in the Pima County Superior Court building, located at 110 West Congress Street. The Santa Catalina Mountains, commonly referred to as the Catalina Mountains or the Catalinas, are north and northeast of Tucson in Arizona, United States, on Tucson's north perimeter. Hugo Oconór
Hugh O'Conor by birth or Hugo Oconór in Spanish, was a military governor of northern Mexico. He was appointed governor of Texas by the Spanish viceroy of New Spain in 1767. It is recorded that O'Conor rode well over on horseback in the course of conducting his duties. O'Conor was called "The Red Captain" by the Apache, both for the color of his hair and his formidable military leadership. O'Conor was the founding father of the city of Tucson, Arizona, having authorized the construction of a military fort in that location in 1775. In 1777, O'Conor requested, due to his failing health, to be transferred to the Yucatan Peninsula, whereupon he was promoted to brigadier general and appointed Governor of Yucatan Peninsula.
