Triple M
Triple M is an Australian commercial radio network owned and operated by Southern Cross Austereo. The network consists of 40 radio stations broadcasting a mainstream rock music format and 5 digital radio stations. The network dates back to the launch of Triple M Sydney in 1980. On 15 December 2016, the network was amalgamated with the LocalWorks network of regional radio stations. History The first Triple M station was Triple M Sydney, which commenced broadcasting to Sydney on 2 August 1980. Triple M Sydney and then-rival 2Day FM were the first commercial FM radio stations in Sydney. Throughout the 1980s, Triple M was one of the highest-rating radio stations in Sydney, spearheaded by its morning show presented by Doug Mulray and featuring the writing of and occasional appearances by Andrew Denton. Mainstream Rock
Mainstream rock (also known as heritage rock) is a radio format used by many commercial radio stations in the United States and Canada. Format background Mainstream rock stations represent the middle ground between classic rock and active rock on the programming spectrum, in that they play more classic rock songs from the 1970s and 1980s and fewer songs from emerging acts than active rock stations, and only rarely play songs on the softer edge of the classic rock format. They program a balanced airplay of tracks found on active rock and classic rock playlists, but the music playlist tends to focus on charting hard rock music from the 1970s through the 2000s. Mainstream rock is the true successor to the widespread album-oriented rock (AOR) format created in the 1970s. Triple M Brisbane
4MMM (identified on air and in print as Triple M) is a commercial FM rock radio station in Brisbane, Australia. It broadcasts on the Triple M network on 104.5 MHz frequency. Station history 4MMM started on the FM band at 104.1 MHz on August 22nd, 1980. Brisbane businessman Leo Williams (rugby union) was the driving force behind the venture while the station manager then was Rob McKay, who left the station soon after allowing program manager Ted Seymour to take the reins. Their first format was contemporary rock. It was rebranded as FM104 in December 1982 with the new slogan "Rock in Stereo", and focused on the typical Queensland lifestyle of beaches and barbecues. High Voltage Radio
High Voltage Radio (identified as Triple M's High Voltage Radio in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide and Mix 94.5's High Voltage Radio in Perth) was a pop up Digital Radio station broadcasting nationally in Australia while AC/DC were touring the country in 2010. The station was part of Austereo's Triple M Network and only played AC/DC music. Programming The station exclusively played music by AC/DC and included the band's biggest hits, album tracks, live performances and rarities. Byron Cooke, the anchor of Triple M Sydney's Grill Team, was the host of the station and conducted interviews with the band, talked to people going to the concerts and talked about unknown AC/DC trivia. 89FM (Auckland)
89FM was a local FM radio station in Auckland between 1983 and 1993 and one of the first radio stations to broadcast on FM in both Auckland and New Zealand. The first FM station in New Zealand was Whakatane station, FM 90.7 in January 1982 but this station was only a temporary summer radio station. The other station to start around the same time as 89FM was Magic 91FM in Auckland. The station was originally branded as ''89 Stereo FM'' broadcasting on 89.4FM using the callsign 1ROQ. In 1984 the station became part of Triple M and was rebranded as ''Triple M 89FM'' using the same logo and station imaging as the Triple M stations in Australia, all programming remained local, at the same time the stations callsign was changed to 1MMM. Three D Radio (call sign: 5DDD) is a community radio station based in Adelaide, Australia and located in St Peters, South Australia. Established in 1979, it broadcasts on 93.7 MHz across the greater metropolitan area of Adelaide and the surrounding rural areas, as well as a live stream via its website.
