Thunder Road International Speedbowl
Thunder Road International Speedbowl, more commonly known as just Thunder Road, is a high-banked, paved short track motor racing, short track speedway located in the town of Barre (town), Vermont, Barre, Vermont. The track was founded by Ken Squier in 1960. and sold by Squier and co-owner Tom Curley in the spring of 2017 to former Thunder Road track champion Cris Michaud and local businessman Pat Malone. Currently, Thunder Road hosts three weekly divisions: Late Models, Flying Tigers, and Street Stocks. The track is known for hosting its weekly races on Thursday night. As of April 2020, it was one of three active race tracks in Vermont. History Ken Squier envisioned the need for an asphalt track in the area which had been full of dirt tracks. Barre ( ) is a town in Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 7,923 at the 2020 census, making it the 3rd largest municipality in Washington County and the 16th largest municipality in Vermont. Popularly referred to as "Barre Town", the town of Barre almost completely surrounds " Barre City", which is a separate municipality. The original town now known as Barre was first chartered in 1780 as the Town of Wildersburgh. In 1793 the name Wildersburgh was unpopular with the inhabitants and the name of the town was changed to Barre. Kevin Paul Lepage (born June 26, 1962) is a retired American professional stock car racing driver, who last drove in NASCAR in 2014. Racing career Early career Lepage spent the 1980s driving in both the Busch North series and the Vermont-based American Canadian Tour series. WCAX-TV (channel 3) is a television station licensed to Burlington, Vermont, United States, serving as the CBS affiliate for the Burlington, Vermont–Plattsburgh, New York market. Philip Brian Scott (born August 4, 1958) is an American politician, businessman and stock car racer who has served as the 82nd governor of Vermont since 2017. Ryan Jeffrey Preece (born October 25, 1990) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 41 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing. Preece previously competed in what is now the ARCA Menards Series East and West. The Pro All Stars Series is a stock car racing governing body active in the United States of America and Canada. The series started in 2001 and now sanctions various series including North, South, and National Super Late Model tours and a New England Modified tour. History The Pro All Stars Series started with the PASS North Pro Stock in 2001. The class was founded by former stockcar racer Tom Mayberry.
