Sundeved
Sundeved is a peninsula on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. It lies between Åbenrå Fjord and Als Fjord to the north, Alssund to the east and Flensborg Fjord to the south. The westernmost part of the city of Sønderborg is located on the peninsula. Most of Sønderborg is on the island of Als. Until December 31, 2006 Sundeved (german: Sundewitt) was also the name of a municipality in the former South Jutland County The municipality covered an area of 69 km2, and had a total population of 5,298 (2005). Its last mayor was John Solkær Pedersen. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Sønderborg, in neighboring Sønderborg municipality. Towns in the municipality included Avnbøl, Ballebro, Blans, Stenderup, Ullerup, Vester Sottrup, and Øster Sottrup. South Jutland County
South Jutland County ( Danish: ''Sønderjyllands Amt'') is a former county ( Danish: ''amt'') on the south-central portion of the Jutland Peninsula in southern Denmark. The county was formed on 1 April 1970, comprising the former counties of Aabenraa (E), Haderslev (N), Sønderborg (SE), and Tønder (SW). The county was abolished effective 1 January 2007, when the Region of Southern Denmark was formed. Johannes Gelert
Johannes Sophus Gelert (1852-1923) was a Danish-born sculptor, who came to the United States in 1887 and during a span of more than thirty years produced numerous works of civic art in the Midwest and on the East Coast.''New Jersey's First Citizens'' (Paterson, NJ: J. Otto Gelert
Otto Christian Leonor Gelert (9 November 1862 in Nybøl on Sundeved peninsula – 20 March 1899 in Copenhagen) was a Danish pharmacist and botanist, who specialized in plant floristics and systematics. He was a brother of sculptor Johannes Gelert. In 1883 he received his degree in pharmacy and subsequently worked as a druggist in the communities of Ribe and Horsens. From 1894 he worked as chemist at a sugar refinery in Tangermünde, Germany. During the latter part of his career he worked at the botanical museum in Copenhagen. In 1897 he took a scientific excursion to the Canary Islands. In 1899 he died of tuberculosis in Copenhagen, aged 36.Salmonsens konversationsleksikon (biography). Until 1 January 2007 Sydals (german: Südalsen) was a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') in South Jutland County on the southern part of the island of Als off the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in south Denmark. Broager Municipality
Broager Municipality is a former Danish municipality (Danish, '' kommune''). The municipality covered an area of 43 km2, and had a total population of 6,290 (2005).
