Steeles Avenue
Steeles Avenue is an east–west street that forms the northern city limit of Toronto and the southern limit of York Region in Ontario, Canada. It stretches across the western and central Greater Toronto Area from Appleby Line in Milton in the west to the Toronto-Pickering city limits in the east, where it continues east into Durham Region as Taunton Road, which itself extends across the length of Durham Region to its boundary with Northumberland County. York Region refers to Steeles Avenue as Regional Road 95 but the designation is strictly internal and there are no signs posted; as the street was always owned and maintained by the City of Toronto (succeeding Metropolitan Toronto). Through Peel and Halton Regions, the street is signed as Peel Road 15 and Halton Road 8, respectively. Steele County, North Dakota
Steele County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,798, making it the fifth-least populous county in North Dakota. Its county seat since 1919 is Finley. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on June 2, 1883, with territories partitioned from Griggs and Traill counties. It was not organized at that time, but was attached to Traill for administrative and judicial purposes. It was named for businessman Edward H. Steele, who had pushed for its creation. On July 13, 1883, the county organization was effected and Steele County was detached from Traill County; Sherbrooke, North Dakota was chosen as the county seat. In 1897 the town of Finley was founded, and by 1919 its growth had eclipsed Sherbrooke to the point that the county seat was transferred to Finley. Steele County is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 37,406. Its county seat is Owatonna. Steele County comprises the Owatonna, MN Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The county was created by the Minnesota Territory legislature on February 20, 1855, using areas partitioned from Rice, Blue Earth, and Le Sueur counties. Owatonna, the settlement of which had commenced in 1854, was named the county seat. The county was named for Franklin Steele, a prominent early resident of the territory. Fort Steele is a heritage site in the East Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. This visitor attraction lies on the east shore of the Kootenay River between the mouths of the St. Mary River and Wild Horse River. The locality, on the merged section of highways 93 and 95, is by road about northeast of Cranbrook and southeast of Golden. Steele is a city in Kidder County, North Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of Kidder County. The population was 665 at the 2020 census. Although they bear the same name, the city of Steele is not in Steele County. History Steele was platted in 1878 by Wilbur F. Steele, and named for him. USS ''Steele'' (BDE-8/DE-8) was an ''Evarts''-class short-hull destroyer escort in the service of the United States Navy. Namesake John M. Steele was born on 24 August 1920 at Bruno, Minnesota. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 29 December 1941. He was a member of the Marine Detachment on board and was killed during the Battle of the Coral Sea on 8 May 1942. He was commended by the Commanding Officer of ''Lexington'' for remaining at his antiaircraft battery during strafing and the explosion of four torpedoes near the battery, and after a bomb had burst and set fire to a locker of heavy ammunition at the battery. He and other members of the gun crew extinguished the fire and readied the only remaining serviceable gun for further defense of the ship. Steele is a supercomputer that was installed at Purdue University on May 5, 2008. The high-performance computing cluster is operated by Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP), the university's central information technology organization. ITaP also operates clusters named Coates built in 2009, Rossmann built in 2010, and Hansen and Carter built in 2011. Steele was the largest campus supercomputer in the Big Ten outside a national center when built. It ranked 104th on the November 2008 TOP500 Supercomputer Sites list. Hardware Steele consisted of 893 64-bit, 8-core Dell PowerEdge 1950 and nine 64-bit, 8-core Dell PowerEdge 2950 systems with various combinations of 16-32 gigabytes RAM, 160 GB to 2 terabytes of disk, and Gigabit Ethernet and SDR InfiniBand to each node.
