Ernst Stöckl (26 May 1912 — 22 March 2000) was an Austrian chess player. Biography From the second half of the 1950s until the mid-1960s, Ernst Stöckl was one of the strongest chess players in Austria. He was the participant of traditional chess tournaments held in Austria: Leopold Trebitsch Memorial Tournament, Carl Schlechter Memorial Tournament and others. Ernst Stöckl played for Austria in the Chess Olympiads: * In 1958, at third board in the 13th Chess Olympiad in Munich (+5, =4, -4), * In 1964, at reserve board in the 16th Chess Olympiad in Tel Aviv (+2, =2, -3). Albert Stöckl
Albert Stöckl ( Möhren, Middle Franconia, Kingdom of Bavaria, 15 March 1823 – Eichstädt, 15 November 1895) was a German neo-scholastic philosopher and theologian. Biography He received his classical education at the gymnasium at Eichstädt, studied philosophy and theology at the episcopal lyceum in the same city (1843–48), and was ordained priest 22 April 1848. His first position was that of curate at the pilgrimage church at Wemding. In 1850, he was made instructor of philosophy at the episcopal lyceum at Eichstädt, and two years later was appointed professor of theoretical philosophy in the same institution. He received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (1855) from the University of Würzburg; and was transferred (1857) to the theological section of the lyceum as professor of exegesis and Hebrew. Eduard Andreevich Stoeckl (russian: Эдуард Андреевич Стекль) (1804 in Constantinople – January 26, 1892 in Paris) was a Russian diplomat best known today for having negotiated the American purchase of Alaska on behalf of the Russian government. Personal life He was son of Andreas von Stoeckl, Austrian diplomat in Constantinople, and Maria Pisani, daughter of Nicolas Pisani, Russian dragoman in Constantinople. Career In 1850 he became ''chargé d'affaires'' of the Russian embassy in Washington, and in 1854 held the post of minister, vacant after death of Aleksandr Bodisko. Like his predecessor, Stoeckl married an American woman, Elisa Howard. Stoeckl established close friendly relations with many American officials and politicians, including the senator and the future Secretary of State William H.
