Snøhetta is the highest mountain in the Dovrefjell mountain range in Norway. At , it is the highest mountain in Norway outside the Jotunheimen range, making it the 24th highest peak in Norway, based on a topographic prominence cutoff. At , its topographic prominence is the third highest in Norway. The mountain is located in the Dovrefjell mountains in northern Innlandet county in Dovre Municipality. The mountain lies inside Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park and it is the highest peak in the park. It is surrounded by several other mountains including Brunkollen to the east; Einøvlingseggen to the south; Skredahøin Bruri, Nordre Svånåtinden, and Storstyggesvånåtinden to the southwest; and Store Langvasstinden, Larstinden, and Drugshøi to the west. Dovrefjell
Dovrefjell is a mountain range in Central Norway that forms a natural barrier between Eastern Norway and Trøndelag. The mountain range is located in Innlandet, Møre og Romsdal, and Trøndelag counties in Norway. As a result of its central location, its valleys and passes have been heavily trafficked during and probably preceding historical times. Several mountain inns were established in the Middle Ages to house pilgrims traveling through Dovrefjell to Trondheim, and there are even ruins of an old leper colony in the northern area of it. The main south-north highway (European route E6) and the Dovrebanen railway line both run through a mountain pass in the Dovrefjell range. The highway is a year-round highway but on rare occasions it is closed for short periods during heavy winter weather conditions. Jens Esmark
Jens Esmark (31 January 1763 – 26 January 1839) was a Danish-Norwegian professor of mineralogy who contributed to many of the initial discoveries and conceptual analyses of glaciers, specifically the concept that glaciers had covered larger areas in the past. Biography Jens Esmark was born in Houlbjerg in Århus, Denmark. Esmark moved to Norway to the silver mining community of Kongsberg. He studied at the local mining academy. He completed his subsequent studies in Copenhagen and was accepted as a surveyor. Starting in 1797, Esmark was employed as a lecturer in mineralogy at the Kongsberg Mining Academy. In 1814, Esmark became Norway's first professor of geology as a professor of geology at the University of Oslo, and was described as "a pioneer in glacial geology", by professor of Quaternary geology and Glaciology Bjørn G. Skredahøin (also referred to as Skredho and Skredhøis) is a mountain in Lesja Municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. The tall mountain lies within Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park, about north of the village of Dombås. The mountain is surrounded by several other mountains including Storstyggesvånåtinden which is about to the north, Snøhetta which is about to the northeast, Einøvlingseggen which is about to the southeast, Mjogsjøoksli which is about to the southwest, and Mjogsjøhøi which is about to the west. Skredahøin lies in an active seismic region and hence experiences frequent earthquakes, including one on 24 March 2012 with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Ritcher Scale and its centre was away for the mountain.
