1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours
''1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours'' is a compilation album comprising early recordings by American rock band Green Day, released October 1, 1991, on Lookout Records. Often erroneously referred to as the band's debut album, the compilation combines the band's actual debut ''39/Smooth'' and its first two EPs ''Slappy'' and ''1,000 Hours'' (all currently out of print), as suggested by the amalgamation of the titles of the debut album and two EPs for the resulting compilation album. The album includes one cover, "Knowledge" (originally from the ''Slappy'' EP), which was originally by influential California punk band Operation Ivy, whose singer, Jesse Michaels, contributed the artwork for the album. The cover art features the same image from ''39/Smooth''. Lookout! re-released the album in 2004 with special limited packaging and all-new enhanced CD-ROM features, including live performances and pictures. The album was re-issued in the same packaging in 2007 through Reprise Records a ...

39/Smooth
''39/Smooth'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Green Day, released on April 13, 1990, by Lookout Records. It was the band's only album to feature second drummer John Kiffmeyer. Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy contributed the artwork on the album. The inner sleeve shows handwritten lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong and letters by drummer John Kiffmeyer and Lookout owner Larry Livermore to I.R.S. Records, rejecting a fake offer to sign to the label and declaring its loyalty to Lookout (however, the band would later leave the label and move to Reprise Records). There were no official singles released from the album, although "Going to Pasalacqua" was released as a mock-up single in a Green Day singles box set entitled ''Green Day: Ultimate Collectors''. ''39/Smooth'' was later re-released, along with the band's two previous extended plays '' 1,000 Hours'' and '' Slappy,'' and the song "I Want to Be Alone" (from ''The Big One,'' a compilation album released by Flipsid ...

1,000 Hours
''1,000 Hours'' is the debut EP by American rock band Green Day. It was released on May 26, 1989, through Lookout Records with the catalog number LK 17. Album information “1,000 Hours” was written by Billie Joe about his best friend's sister, Jennifer, who he was romantically interested in. Jennifer didn't want to put up with a younger and inexperienced guy, and Billie Joe wrote about his experience in a song. “Dry Ice” is a similar song. He is deeply in love with a girl, and keeps dreaming of her, but he doesn't know if she feels the same way. He writes this song as a "letter" to that girl, who he hopes will eventually read it. “Only of You” is a song about love at first sight. The narrator loses sleep because of this person he is so infatuated with. He's only seen them once, but it was enough to cause these love-filled thoughts to take over him. They are only friends and he doesn't dare tell them his inside thoughts - all he can do is hope that this wonderful inf ...

Operation Ivy (band)
Operation Ivy was an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California, formed in May 1987. The band was stylistically important, as one of the first bands to mix the elements of hardcore punk and ska into a new amalgam called ska punk. The band was critical to the emergence of Lookout Records and the so-called "East Bay Sound." The band's name was derived from the Operation Ivy series of nuclear tests in 1952. Although the band released just one full-length album before breaking up in May 1989, Operation Ivy is well remembered as the direct antecedent of popular band Rancid and for wielding a lasting stylistic influence over numerous other bands in what became the third wave ska movement. History Formation Operation Ivy was formed in May 1987 and was named after the code name of a 1952 American nuclear weapons testing program.
