Skating Club Of New York
The Skating Club of New York is a figure skating club in New York City. It was founded in 1863 and is the second oldest skating club in the United States. It was one of the founding members of the United States Figure Skating Association. Melissa Militano
Melissa Mary Militano (married name: Warkmeister; born April 26, 1955 in Rockville Centre, New York) is an American former competitive figure skater who competed as a single skater and pair skater. As a pair skater, she won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships three times, in 1973 with her brother Mark Militano and in 1974 and 1975 with Johnny Johns. Their coaches included Peter Dunfield and Ron Ludington. Melissa and Mark Militano represented the United States at the 1972 Winter Olympics where they placed 7th. Militano was also a talented singles skater. At the 1970 United States Figure Skating Championships, she became one of the first female skaters to successfully perform a triple toe loop jump in competition, in a performance that won her the bronze medal in the junior ladies division. Sarah Hughes
Sarah Elizabeth Hughes (born May 2, 1985) is a former American competitive figure skater. She is the 2002 Olympic Champion and the 2001 World bronze medalist in ladies' singles. Personal life Hughes was born in Great Neck, New York, a suburb on Long Island. Her father, John Hughes, was a Canadian of Irish descent and was one of the captains of the undefeated and untied NCAA champion 1969–70 Cornell University ice hockey team. Her mother, Amy Pastarnack, is Jewish and is a breast cancer survivor. This led Hughes to become an advocate for breast cancer awareness. She appeared in a commercial for General Electric promoting breast cancer awareness and research. Alex Hideo Shibutani (born April 25, 1991) is an American ice dancer. Partnered with his sister Maia Shibutani, he is a two-time Olympic bronze medalist (2018), a three-time World medalist (silver in 2016; bronze in 2011 and 2017), the 2016 Four Continents champion, and a two-time U.S. national champion (2016, 2017). The Shibutanis have also won six titles on the Grand Prix series and a silver medal at the 2009 World Junior Championships. They are two-time members of the US Olympic team, competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Adam Rippon
Adam Richard Rippon (born November 11, 1989) is an American figure skater. He won the 2010 Four Continents Championships and the 2016 U.S. National Championships. Earlier in his career, he won the 2008 and 2009 World Junior Championships, the 2007–2008 Junior Grand Prix Final, and the 2008 U.S junior national title. Rippon was selected to represent the United States at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. At the 2018 Winter Olympics, Rippon won a bronze medal as part of the figure skating team event. Elaine Zayak
Elaine Kathryn Zayak (born April 4, 1965) is an American former figure skater. She is the 1982 World champion and 1981 U.S. national champion. She competed at the 1984 Winter Olympics, placing 6th. Personal life Zayak was born and raised in Paramus, New Jersey. At age two, she lost three toes on her left foot as a result of a lawn mower accident. On the advice of her doctors, she began figure skating as physical therapy. Her left boot was stabilized with a wood mold to compensate for the irregularity in the shape of her left foot. Zayak attended Paramus High School and was awarded the Dial Award for the national high-school scholar-athlete of the year in 1982. Johnny Weir
John Garvin Weir (; born July 2, 1984) is an American figure skater and television commentator. He is a two-time Olympian (representing the United States in the 2006 and 2010 Winter Olympics, respectively), the 2008 World bronze medalist, a two-time Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, the 2001 World Junior Champion, and a three-time U.S. National champion (2004–2006). He began skating at the age of 12, two or three times older than when most elite skaters start training. Robert Swenning
Robert Joseph "Bob" Swenning (July 25, 1924 – November 8, 2012) was an American figure skater. He was born in Greenwich, Connecticut. He originally competed in ice dance, winning the gold medal at the 1945 United States Figure Skating Championships The U.S. Figure Skating Championships is a figure skating competition held annually to crown the national champions of the United States. Yvonne Sherman
Yvonne C. Sherman Tutt (May 3, 1930 – February 2, 2005 in Colorado Springs, CO) was an American figure skater. She won the gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships twice in ladies' single skating and once in pair skating with Robert Swenning. Sherman competed in both disciplines in the 1948 Winter Olympics. After her competitive career ended, Sherman became a skating judge. She was married to William Thayer Tutt, a prominent skating administrator and promoter from Colorado Springs. Joseph Savage
Joseph Knebel Savage (May 21, 1879 in New York, New York – March 10, 1956 in Asbury Park, New Jersey) was an American figure skater who competed in pairs and ice dance. Teamed with Edith Secord, he won the bronze medal in pairs at the United States Figure Skating Championships in 1929 and 1930 and finished eighth at the 1930 World Figure Skating Championships. He then teamed with Gertrude Meredith, capturing two more bronze medals at the U.S. Championships in 1932 and 1933 and finishing seventh out of seven pairs at the 1932 Winter Olympic Games (when Savage was 52 years old). Savage later switched disciplines to ice dance and teamed with Marjorie Parker to win the first official United States championship in 1936.
