Sisimiut
Sisimiut (), formerly known as Holsteinsborg, is the capital and largest city of the Qeqqata municipality, the second-largest city in Greenland, and the largest Arctic city in North America.The term 'city' is loosely used to describe any populated area in Greenland, given that the most populated place is Nuuk, the capital, with 16,454 inhabitants. The term 'Arctic' is interpreted as strictly the area within the Arctic Circle. It is located in central-western Greenland, on the coast of Davis Strait, approximately north of Nuuk. ''Sisimiut'' literally means "the residents at the foxholes" ( da, Beboerne ved rævehulerne). Kangerluarsunnguaq Bay
Kangerluarsunnguaq Bay ( aŋeʁluɑʁsuŋːuɑq̚ da, Ulkebugten) is a bay of the Davis Strait in the Qeqqata municipality on the western coast of Greenland. It is located directly to the north of Sisimiut. Geography The bay branches off Davis Strait to the east, just north of Sisimiut. It is navigable in its entirety, protected from the open sea by a series of skerries and channels in the west. In the past, at the time of the Saqqaq culture settlements in the area, the bay extended further inland, the shoreline was up to several dozen meters above the present line, covering portions of the Sisimiut valley, and gradually decreasing in time due to post-glacial rebound. Taseralik Culture Center
Taseralik Culture Center ( kl, Taseralik kulturikkut) is a cultural center in Sisimiut, a town in western Greenland, the second-largest town in the country. Qeqqata
Qeqqata (, da, Centrum, lit=Centre) is a municipality in western Greenland, operational from 1 January 2009. The municipality was named after its location in the central-western part of the country. Its population is 9,378 as of January 2020. The administrative center of the municipality is in Sisimiut (formerly called Holsteinsborg). Creation It consists of the previously unincorporated area of Kangerlussuaq, as well as two former municipalities of western Greenland, Maniitsoq and Sisimiut. Geography In the south and east, the municipality is flanked by the Sermersooq municipality, although settlements and associated trade is concentrated mainly alongside the coast. Palasip Qaqqaa
Palasip Qaqqaa ( da, Præstefjeldet) is a mountain in the Qeqqata municipality in western Greenland. It is located on the mainland of Greenland on the coast of Davis Strait, immediately to the north of Sisimiut Airport. Pilersuisoq
Pilersuisoq is a chain of all-purpose general stores in Greenland, a major division of the state-owned KNI conglomerate. Like its parent company, it is based in Sisimiut (Holsteinsborg), the second-largest town in Greenland. Lars Behrendt is the administrative director of the company since 2008. Operations The chain operates 64 outlets in all small settlements in the country, as well as smaller towns which are not, except for Aasiaat, covered by the Pisiffik or Brugsen supermarket chains. The stores in remote settlements are supplied by Royal Arctic Line but the intervals between the shipments are long, with some settlements like Ittoqqortoormiit and Qaanaaq only served twice a year. The Arctic Circle is one of the two polar circles, and the most northerly of the five major circles of latitude as shown on maps of Earth. Its southern equivalent is the Antarctic Circle. Nuuk
Nuuk (; da, Nuuk, formerly ) is the capital and largest city of Greenland, a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark. Nuuk is the seat of government and the country's largest cultural and economic centre. The major cities from other countries closest to the capital are Iqaluit and St. John's in Canada and Reykjavík in Iceland. Nuuk contains a third of Greenland's population and its tallest building. Nuuk is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. In January 2021, it had a population of 18,800.
