Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport is an airport located near Plaine Corail on Rodrigues, an island dependency of Mauritius. It is named after Gaëtan Duval (1930–1996), a former deputy Mauritian prime minister, who oversaw much of the development of Rodrigues. Prior to being renamed in 2007, it was known as Plaine Corail Airport. Airport of Rodrigues Ltd ''(ARL)'' was incorporated on 8 February 2000 as a public company. In 2006, the airport handled 49,500 passengers. It has an asphalt runway which measures . Port Mathurin
The village of Port Mathurin serves as the capital of the island of Rodrigues, a dependency of Mauritius. Most of the population of Rodrigues settles close to or in the city. It lies on the north coast of the Indian Ocean island and functions as the administrative, judicial and economic centre of Rodrigues. As the name suggests, it also operates the main harbour of the island. Port Mathurin has a population of around 6,000 people (2006). DAFIF () or the ''Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File'' is a comprehensive database of up-to-date aeronautical data, including information on airports, airways, airspaces, navigation data, and other facts relevant to flying in the entire world, managed by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) of the United States. Withdrawal of public access DAFIF was publicly available until October 2006 through the Internet; however, it was closed to public access because "increased numbers of foreign source providers are claiming intellectual property rights or are forewarning NGA that they intend to copyright their source". Gaëtan Duval
Sir Charles Gaëtan Duval QC (9 October 1930 – 5 May 1996) was a barrister, statesman and politician from Mauritius who was the leader of the Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD). Early life and education Duval was born in Rose Hill on 9 October 1930. He was born in an upper middle-class Creole family of mixed ancestry. His father Charles was a civil servant and his mother Rosina Henrisson (1902-1989) was a housewife. In 1933 when Gaëtan was only 3 years old his father died and thus his uncle Raoul raised him. The young Duval attended Saint-Enfant-Jésus RCA primary school and the Royal College of Curepipe. He then travelled abroad to study law at Lincoln's Inn (UK) and at the Faculty of Law of (Paris). He then joined the Mauritian Bar to practice as Barrister and became known during high profile cases. Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport is the main international airport in Mauritius. It is located southeast of the capital city of Port Louis.
