Schorndorf
Schorndorf is a town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, located approximately 26 km east of Stuttgart. Its train station is the terminus of the S2 line of the Stuttgart S-Bahn. The town is also sometimes referred to as ' (''The Daimler Town'' in English), as it is the town in which Gottlieb Daimler (1834–1900) was born. Schorndorf Station
Schorndorf station is in the city of Schorndorf in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It was opened in 1861 along with the Rems Railway from Stuttgart to Aalen. The abbreviation of the station is TSF and it is currently used by about 10,000 passengers a day. Location The station is situated on the northern edge of the historic Altstadt of the city of Schorndorf in the centre of the city. Next to the station to its east is the central bus station, to the west was the former freight yard. Layout of the station The station consists of a Renaissance Revival reception building completed in 1863 with some later additions. It has six tracks, namely platform tracks 1–5 and track 14 to the west of the station. Tracks 1–3 and track 5 are in normal use while track 14 is occasionally used for S-Bahn services. Reinhold Maier
Reinhold Maier (16 October 1889 – 19 August 1971) was a German politician and the leader of the FDP from 1957–1960. From 1946 to 1952 he was Minister President of Württemberg-Baden and then the 1st Minister President of the new state of Baden-Württemberg until 1953. He served as the 4th President of the Bundesrat in 1952/53, the only FDP politician in German history to do so to date. Maier was born in Schorndorf. Early life Maier, a Protestant, was born the son of a municipal architect, Gottlieb Maier, in Schorndorf. After attending grammar school in Schorndorf, Reinhold Maier attended the Dillmann-Gymnasium in Stuttgart and, in 1907, received his Abitur. Kunigunde Sophie Ludovike Simanowiz (née Reichenbach; February 21, 1759, Schorndorf - September 3, 1827, Ludwigsburg) was a German portrait painter in the Classical style. Biography Her father was a military feldsher and her mother was the daughter of a pharmacist. She was born in the barracks where her father was employed. In 1762, her family moved to Ludwigsburg, where she grew up with Friedrich Schiller and his sisters.* Christophine, who was the first to recognize Friedrich's talent, became her life-long friend. Her family appreciated her artistic talent and made every effort to promote her career. Gottlieb Daimler
Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler (; 17 March 1834 – 6 March 1900) was a German engineer, industrial designer and industrialist born in Schorndorf ( Kingdom of Württemberg, a federal state of the German Confederation), in what is now Germany. He was a pioneer of internal-combustion engines and automobile development. He invented the high-speed liquid petroleum-fueled engine. Daimler and his lifelong business partner Wilhelm Maybach were two inventors whose goal was to create small, high-speed engines to be mounted in any kind of locomotion device. Viola Brand
Viola Brand (born 28 June 1994) is a German cyclist specialising in artistic cycling. She has won national and European championships twice each, and the silver medal three times in the World Championships. Personal life Brand was born in Backnang, Germany. She tried to climb the training bike as early as 5 years old, then still failing to reach the pedals. Her elder brother did artistic cycling before her, and both he and Brand were coached by their mother. She started training artistic cycling at 6 years old. Johann Philipp Palm or Johannes Philipp Palm (17 December 1768 – 26 August 1806) was a German bookseller and a strong anti-French agitator and freedom fighter executed during the Napoleonic Wars at Napoleon's orders. He was born at Schorndorf in Württemberg. Having been apprenticed to his uncle, the publisher Johann Jakob Palm (1750–1826), in Erlangen, he married the daughter of the bookseller Stein in Nuremberg, and in the course of time became proprietor of his father-in-law's business. Rems-Murr-Kreis
Rems-Murr is a ''Landkreis'' (district) in the middle of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Heilbronn, Schwäbisch Hall, Ostalbkreis, Göppingen, Esslingen, the district-free city Stuttgart and the district Ludwigsburg. History The district was created in 1973 when Waiblingen was merged with most of the district Backnang and a few municipalities from the district Schwäbisch Gmünd. Geography The largest part of the district is located in the Swabian-Franconian Forest (''Schwäbisch-Fränkischer Wald''), of which the Mainhardt Forest forms a part.
