"Satellit" (), known in English as "Satellite", is a soft rock song written by Swedish composer and singer Ted Gärdestad and lyricist Kenneth Gärdestad. Originally performed by Ted, the song was performed in its native language as the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, finishing in 17th place. Background Ted Gärdestad produced his first four albums together with Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, which featured backing vocals by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, and were released on the record label Polar. Ted, along with his elder brother and lyricist Kenneth, had previously competed in Melodifestivalen, the Swedish pre-selections, three times before winning; in 1973 with "Oh, vilken härlig dag", finishing in fourth place, in 1975 with "Rockin' 'n' Reelin'", finishing in seventh place, and in 1977 when he and brother Kenneth wrote Lena Andersson's entry "Det bästa som finns", which finished in eighth place. ''Blue Virgin Isles'' is the fifth studio album and international debut album by Swedish singer-songwriter Ted Gärdestad, released on November 1978 by Epic Records in the UK and Polar Music in Scandinavia. Ted Gärdestad
Ted Arnbjörn Gärdestad (; 18 February 195622 June 1997) was a Swedish singer, songwriter, musician and actor known internationally as Ted. Gärdestad began his acting career in 1966 and began playing music in 1971, signing with Polar Music. Assigned with in-house producers Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Gärdestad released his first single, "Hela världen runt," in late 1971 and worked closely with the four members of ABBA to create his debut album '' Undringar'' (1972). As Polar Music's best-selling solo artist (aside from ABBA), he continued to work with the group members throughout the 1970s, releasing three more albums '' Ted'' (1973), ''Upptåg'' (1974) and ''Franska Kort'' (1976), which were moderately successful. Kenneth Gärdestad
John Charles Kenneth Gärdestad (9 May 1948 – 3 March 2018) was a Swedes, Swedish songwriter, best known for writing lyrics for the songs of his brother, Ted Gärdestad. He participated at Melodifestivalen 1979 as a songwriter for the winning song "Satellit" performed by his brother. The song went on to Eurovision Song Contest, Eurovision the same year, where it placed 17th. Gärdestad was also an architect, affiliated to the private Kunskapsskolan, where he designed the interior of several of its high schools. Gärdestad published the biography ''Jag vill ha en egen måne'' in 2005. In later years he became a mental health activist, and created the "Ted Gärdestad Stipend", a prize awarded to amateur singers and songwriter. Colorado (Sandra Reemer Song)
"Colorado" was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1979, performed in Dutch by the six-piece group Xandra, fronted by Sandra Reemer. This was Reemer's third Eurovision entry; in 1972 she had finished 4th with " Als het om de liefde gaat", as part of the duo Sandra & Andres, and in 1976 9th with "The Party's Over", then as a solo artist. "Colorado" was written by brothers Rob & Ferdi Bolland and Gerard Cox. Internationally Bolland & Bolland are arguably best known for writing and recording the original version of Status Quo's 1986 hit " In the Army Now" (#1 Austria & Switzerland, #2 UK, France & Norway, #6 Sweden, #15 The Netherlands). The Eurovision Song Contest 1979 was the 24th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Jerusalem, Israel, following the country's victory at the with the song "A-Ba-Ni-Bi" by Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta. Blue Virgin Isles is a song written by Ted Gärdestad and Kenneth Gärdestad, and originally recorded with lyrics in English on the Ted Gärdestad album "Blue Virgin Isles", released October 1978. as well as appearing as a B-side for the 1979 single "Satellit". Recording it with lyrics in Swedish by Kenneth Gärdestad as ''Himlen är oskyldigt blå'', Ted Gärdestad released it as a single in 1993 charting at Svensktoppen for seven weeks between 18 September and 30 October 1993, peaking at 4th position. Barbara Alexandra "Sandra" Reemer (17 October 1950 – 6 June 2017) was an Indo-Dutch singer and television presenter. She represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest on three occasions, tying with Corry Brokken for most appearances representing the country. In 1972, she sang the song " Als het om de liefde gaat" in a duet with Dries Holten (she was credited as "Sandra", he was credited as "Andres"); the duo came fourth. In 1976, this time credited under her real name, Reemer performed solo singing the song " The Party's Over", which reached ninth place. In 1979, she was credited as "Xandra" and sang the song "Colorado", which placed twelfth. Malando Gassama (born Malang Omar Gassam; 7 February 1946 – 25 January 1999) was a Gambian percussionist who spent most of his music career in Sweden. He recorded and performed with many notable Swedish and international artists such as ABBA, Al Jarreau, Anni-Frid Lyngstad (of ABBA), Ted Gärdestad, Bette Midler, Gábor Szabó, Janne Schaffer, David Sanborn, Viktoria Tolstoy, Jaco Pastorius, and Blacknuss Allstars, etc. He was one of the backup musicians on '' ABBA - the Movie'' and was featured on documentaries which aired on Swedish television and radio.
