Santragachi, or Santragachhi, is a residential neighbourhood in Howrah, Howrah district, West Bengal, India. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Santragachi Junction in Santragachi is one of the five intercity railway junctions of Howrah-Kolkata, which serves as a railway junction-cum-terminus for the South Eastern Railway. Kona Expressway in Santragachi is one of the major and fastest roads to enter Kolkata. Santragachi also has sizeable railway colonies along with minor industries, including a privately owned railway goods wagon making unit and a railway cabin. Santragachi is also popular for its large lake, known as ''Santragachhi Jheel'', which attracts migratory birds in the winter months. Santragachi Kedarnath Institution, Howrah
Santragachi Kedarnath Institution (or Santragachi K.N. Institution) is a Government- sponsored, Bengali medium, higher secondary school located in Howrah in the state of West Bengal, India. The first vernacular Bengali medium school of Howrah district, ''Santragachi Minor School'', that was originally founded by Kedarnath Bhattacharya in 1857, was upgraded to Santragachi Kedarnath Institution in 1925. Prof. Ashutosh Mukherjee, the second Indian Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta laid the foundation stone in 1920. The school shares the same campus with Santragachi Kedarnath Institution (for Girls) and Santragachi Kedarnath Institution Primary Section (Co-ed) (I-IV). Santragachi Junction Railway Station
Santragachi Junction railway station (station code: SRC) is a railway junction in South Eastern Railway Zone of Indian Railways, situated in Santragachhi, Howrah, India. It is one of five intercity railway stations serving Howrah and Kolkata. The station is operated by Indian Railways South Eastern Railway (SER) zone. SER serves local trains to Amta, Mecheda, Panskura, Haldia, Kharagpur and Medinipur and mail/express trains to Central, West and South India. Whilst the station had existed for many years on the line to Howrah railway station, further development was started to upgrade it to a railway terminal in 2015. SER wished to use it for their long-distance trains which would otherwise have to go to the crowded Howrah station which is operated by Eastern Railway. Ashutosh Mukherjee
Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee (anglicised, originally Asutosh Mukhopadhyay, also anglicised to Asutosh Mookerjee) (29 June 1864 – 25 May 1924) was a prolific Bengali educator, jurist, barrister and mathematician. He was the first student to be awarded a dual degree (MA in Mathematics and MSc in Physics) from Calcutta University. Lesser Whistling Duck
The lesser whistling duck (''Dendrocygna javanica''), also known as Indian whistling duck or lesser whistling teal, is a species of whistling duck that breeds in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. They are nocturnal feeders that during the day may be found in flocks around lakes and wet paddy fields. They can perch on trees and sometimes build their nest in the hollow of a tree. This brown and long-necked duck has broad wings that are visible in flight and produces a loud two-note wheezy call. It has a chestnut rump, differentiating it from its larger relative, the fulvous whistling duck, which has a creamy white rump.
