RusHydro (previous name: Hydro-OGK, russian: РусГидро) is a Russian hydroelectricity company. As of early 2012 it had a capacity of 34.9 gigawatts. In late 2009, it was the world's second-largest hydroelectric power producer and is the country's largest power-generating company and the largest successor to RAO UES. 2009 Sayano-Shushenskaya Hydro Accident
On 17 August 2009, a turbine at the hydroelectric power station of the Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam near Sayanogorsk in Russia failed catastrophically, flooding the turbine hall and killing 75 people. A section of the roof of the turbine hall collapsed; all but one of the ten turbines were damaged or destroyed. The entire plant output, totalling 6,400 megawatts (MW) – a significant portion of the supply to the local area – was lost, leading to widespread power outages. An official report on the accident was released in October 2009. Hydropower is the most used form of renewable energy in Russia, and there is large potential in Russia for more use of hydropower. According to the International Hydropower Association Russia is the seventh largest producer of hydroelectricity in 2020. It is also second in the world for hydro potential, yet only 20% of this potential is developed. Russia is home to 9% of the world's hydro resources, mostly in Siberia and the country's far east. Boguchany Dam
The Boguchany Dam (russian: Богучанская ГЭС) is a large hydroelectric dam on the Angara River in Kodinsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. It has an installed capacity of 2,997 MW. Evgeny Vyacheslavovich Dod (russian: Евгений Вячеславович Дод, born April 17, 1973, Moscow, USSR) is a Russian manager and economist. He is CEO of JSC RusHydro (November 2009 - September 2015). Early life Dod was born in 1973 in Moscow. In 1995, he graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute, with a specialty in “Economics and Management at Machine Building Enterprises”. From 1993 to 1996, he worked as an economist at Promradtechbank, then as a senior operational manager at Yukos-Invest.
